“Beautiful Place to see the sunset.”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

We were unlucky as the sky was cloud on the evening we were up on the hill. Be prepared for a lot of steps to come down from the hill. The atmosphere was lovely and it is a great place to take photos. Well worth a visit.

“Worth the climb, just avoid the scams”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

My boyfriend and I didn't really care for Mandalay, but we heard Mandalay Hill was worth the climb. Certainly the sights were spectacular, or at least what we could see through the humid smog. We decided to walk there on our own since our hotel wasn't that far. It was a bit hard to find and the only advice I can give is that the entrance was directly north of the moat, more east. There were no signs (of course), but the street you are looking for has juice vendors lining it.

Entrance to the hill was free, but they tried to charge you to leave your shoes, we just took ours with us and left them hidden halfway up. They also tried to charge a camera fee when you made it to the very top which we thought was ridiculous and so we refused to pay again saying we wouldn't take any photos, whatever.

The climb was strenuous, but not impossible. The way down was easy.

“So worth the climb!”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

We loved the climb up to the top! You do need a certain level of fitness...our legs were sore for days but we were so glad we did this. There is so much to see on the way up...painted gardens and people's houses as well as the array of statues and paintings. We had some fun interacting with locals on the way, especially the kids of all ages. It was hazy (as most of Myanmar is at the moment) but for us the view was secondary to people watching. We were lucky to be there at the same time as a large group of novice nuns...loved to see their giggles and smiles. You can get a taxi and lift or escalator to the top, but if you can possibly do it, climb one of the walkways.

“Great view”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

The ride uphill was not harrowing and the way down is through another road, so no traffic jam. Escalators going up and elevators going down. The view on the surrounding area was just fantastic.

“Bring energy and a camera”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Lots of steps but an experience at every turn. It is worth making the effort to start at the bottom by the giant lion statues. But make it early before the heat of the day. There are water and snack sellers at tempting intervals during the 750foot stair climb.
