The teak wood buildings at the monastery are beautified by the carvings which adorn their Burmese architectural style. Some of the carvings remain coveted in gold leaf. Remove your footwear before entering any of the places of worship. It no longer remains a fully functioning monastery.

We visited several teak wood monasteries during our 2 week stay in Myanmar and each one was both spectacular and unique in its own way. But I think this one was my favorite with the golden paint seeming to glow in the sunlight. I got some fantastic photos at this monastery and would suggest that this NOT be missed during your stay in the area! I would say an hour to explore is enough time.

This monastery is made completely out of teak. It is beautifully carved and currently undergoing renovations of the outer walkway. It is included in the 10000K entrance fee for the Royal Palace.

Worth a visit just for the history and the amazing wood carvings. Make sure you go with a guide to get the full story.
