“Nice Staffs, Good Location”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

One of very nice and quiet hotel in the area of Mandalay. If you love exercise, this is such a nice place to stay as it is not so far away from the moat and Mandalay Hill. Staffs are friendly and especially Mr.Moe, the one from the restaurant made my stay there so memorable. I appreciate it.

Room Tip: If you are eldery or disable, better choose and go for the rooms in the lower floors.

It is unexpectedly amazing hotel! I knew it will be just ok, but didn't expect such great combination of comfy, luxurios and warm atmosphere. Yes, there are only two elevators and yes - I had to wait 3 minutes...

Rooms are equipped with very comfortable beds and all amenities of 5* hotel.

Wellness area is just fantastic, specially magical in the evening hours...

It is not far from the palace walls, some 200 meters. Free fast wifi at every corner of hotel and its compound.

I support the previous review - a completely inadequate lift capacity. Most of our group gave up waiting for lifts and walked down the stairs. The lack of capacity was not helped by the 2 lifts also serving to transport luggage. They need either to add more lift capacity or close half of the floors!

Otherwise the hotel was OK. Room OK (but with very tiny bathroom). A remarkable garden restaurant with excellent food was an added bonus.

Room Tip: Avoid higher floors due to insufficient lift capacity - you may have to use the stairs.

Surely when they built this hotel they should have worked out that 2 lifts, no matter how modern, would never be enough!! Hopeless at key rush times- especially mornings when all the tour groups are trying to get up and down for breakfast!
Apart from that, it's fit for purpose. Bathrooms are ridiculously small for the size of rooms, but that seems to be the norm in Myanmar City hotels for some reason. We had a corner room, which probably wasn't worth paying more for.
It's a modern block hotel without any character on the inside, but a good location in Mandalay.
The pool is lovely- a good size for swimming, and very restful apart from the incessant chanting.could do with more loungers though. The gym is worthy of any sophisticated hotel in the world- huge!!
Good breakfast selection, but be prepared to share tables at busy times.
Eat on the terrace at the rear of the restaurant by preference, especially in the evening, as it has a lovely view of the temples on Mandalay hill.
Friendly and efficient staff who speak good English.

It would seem that they have recently retro fitted the lifts with new control units but that didn't really help the fact that there are only two of them and they were slow to appear as people generally requested both of them. If you are lucky enough to be on a low floor you can use the stairs but that option would be tedious if you were on a high floor.
Loud chanting and/or music going all night outside was very annoying and illustrated a lack of sound proofing.
Breakfast and dinner buffets were OK but nothing special.

This hotel is a true gem. The dinner in the garden is most romantic and the service is good.

The best is the live band in the bar in the evening and the cigar lounge. Who expects to find a Davidoff Pyramide in such a place like upper Burma? The lounge is cosy, stylish and then menu of cigars offers good choice.

We stayed her for two nights in a double room with an extra bed (two adults and three children). This cost us around 750 USD! Yes, it was our own decision to stay at this hotel, but I had expected more from it when I paid that much.

But if you don't have to care about money or if you are a part of a bus group, there are many good things about the hotel:

- The room was newly renovated, had nice beds and a wonderful view.
- The lobby and the restaurant were also newly renovated
- The spa was so beautiful
- The fitness center was really good and the pool was OK, too. In the fitness center you could play table tennis.
- We just loved the breakfast with so many things to choose from
- The staff was nice and helpful

So, why didn't we like it so much?
- They had a show every evening. You could have dinner in front of it (40 USD) but when we wanted to watch it without eating, it would cost us 20 USD - each!
- There is free wifi in the hotel, but if you want to use the business center it cost money.
- We arrived very early the first day (and got our room immediately which we appreciated a lot) and asked how much an extra breakfast was: 18 USD
- So the spa looked fantastic, but you had to pay 45-70 USD for a one-hour massage. In this region that is 5-10 times higher than usual.
- We never tried to eat dinner at the hotel. A simple pasta was about 15 USD. In many restaurants in the town it costs 3-5 USD.

But if I stop focusing on money, there were other bad things to:
- The hotel is located far away from the center of the city. It takes you about 40 minutes to walk - and it is not a nice walk.
- It took 5-15 minutes every time we wanted a taxi.
- There were not many western TV channels in the room.
