Smart Hotel is in a very convenient location. The rooms are relatively clean and well equipped. Staffs are very nice and helpful, they can help arrange a day tour also help booking for boat, bus, and flight. Wifi were only work in reception area when we were there due to a major fixing...issue. breakfast and food in general has a good standard and fair price. Near by the hotel is a restaurant "too too" where serve simple but tasty Myanmar food...an alternate to hotel food. We enjoyed our time.

The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. Their English is okay, although the staff of the sky bar needs a bit more practice. So help them and go there, be it just to see an unexpected bar with bright neon green fake candles and an modern bar. You'll be welcomed by a free (matching neon) cocktail. The bar has a nice view over Mandalay and 2 telescopes to watch Mandalay hill and its lit pagodas.
The hotel is conveniently located close to the palace.

The smart hotel is a really well run hotel and seems to try and offer the best edge of Mandalay hotel experiences. However, it is not that dissimilar to many other places in town, and some surcharges on such things as extra beds can push the price up. Wifi in every room (sort of) and reasonable rooms make this a comfy place to stay without the bells and whistles.
The bonuses are the good location, near the palace, and several restaurants nearby, and the amazingly lovely staff.
The newly opened rooftop bar is worth a visit.

For what we paid I thought the bathroom and room itself would be nicer, but both were fine and apparently Mandalay is pricy. That said, this place has the friendliest and most accommodating staff of our entire trip. They really really know service. The place isn't amazing, but a very solid choice and you won't be disappointed.

I stayed 3 nights here in July and it's a lovely hotel. The reception staff couldn't be more friendly or more helpful, with reconfirming flights and organising airport taxi's. It's close to things and there are always taxi's outside. Hotel staff will tell you what price you should pay which is helpful. Rooms are super clean and the bed was comfortable. All in all a great place to stay.

As fellow travelers had warned, finding lodgings in Myanmar can be difficult as options are limited. Mandalay was the most limited during our stay. Smart Hotel was fine-- clean rooms, good location-- but very basic and expensive. The air conditioning worked and the bed was comfortable!

We had two room types here, firstly a superior twin with extra bed for two nights (booked via Agoda, cheaper than direct), we extended our stay and paid direct for the third night, as our room was booked they upgraded us to the Executive City View King Bed for the same price.
This is a good hotel (for Myanmar) for this price bracket so unless you want to pay the overinflated prices for the ‘better’ hotels then this place would have to be the next best place to stay.
Even though they advertise this as new it is not. Everywhere that says it is new or recently renovated in Myanmar that we have stayed at seems to have recycled everything....
Staff were excellent, attentive and always willing to help. There are a few that don’t have a strong understanding of english but they will get someone for you and do their best.
Breakfast is basically the same each day, a buffet of baked beans, fried rice, noodles, vegies, toast, pastries, juice, tea & coffee, fried tomatoes, thin slices of sausage, and fried egg or omelette which is cooked to order. The omelette was plain though. We ate lunch once at the restaurant on arrival, it was slow, basic food and higher prices compared to elsewhere.
Safety boxes are at reception. There is no air conditioning in the lift or hallways but the air con in the rooms works well. There is a flat screen TV with a few stations, kettle, mini bar, fridge, tea & coffee, shampoo, shower gel, soap, cotton buds, shower caps and toothbrushes supplied. The linen was a good quality with large towels. The cups are tiny so you may like to pack a larger travel mug or similar if you like to make your own beverages.
The superior twin was comfy and had a bathtub with the shower over and there was plenty of hot water. The extra bed was not the best. We had room 303 which had 2 singles and an extra bed. If booking an extra bed be aware that it is a type of fold up bed with a very firm mattress which is not very thick and it has a join in the middle. Sheets do not tuck into it either. The bed is ok for a younger child but would not be very comfortable for an adult. The mattresses on the other beds are also firm. This seems to be standard at a lot of hotels, no such thing as a softer mattress so far on this trip.
The executive room 604 does not have a bath only a shower and there are robes for guest use. There is a large outdoor balcony which is shared with the room next door with a few pot plants dividing the two so really there is no privacy. There is a good view over the city from here and also the windows inside.
The hotel is located in town with plenty of taxis outside for hire to take you to the attractions. A taxi into the plaza shopping centre is 2000kyat for example. Do check that air con works and is included in the price should you wish to use it. The hotel will arrange taxis, air fares, buses etc. We usually walked outside and hired a driver. The hotel arranged a taxi when we departed and it was old and dirty.
I would recommend this hotel as it is a good choice in Mandalay.

Room Tip: book via Agoda.
