“One of the top 3 pagodas in Myanmar”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

There are many locals coming here to pay respect to the Buddha. The golden Buddha statue keeping on growing bigger and bigger through the time based on the golden leaves. Note that only men can get close and put the golden leaves to the Buddha statue. Besides the statue, there are many ancient artifacts brought from Angkor area.

“Nice Temple”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

It was a nice temple. As a female, I was unable to go see the Buddha up close, but overall it was very beautiful. The markets in this area are probably the best and cheapest places in Mandalay to buy souvenirs. Even if it is inside a temple!

“Get your wishes fulfilled.”

A very special place for Buddhists - not to be missed. It is open until about 8 or 9 pm, well lit and we could also shop for souveneirs at the bazaar.

“Gold leaf? Don't mind if I do....”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Somehow both bling and sexism are forgivable in the context of Buddhism so the wife and I both found this place quite charming and didn't worry about the signs warning "no women beyond this point".

This was our first experience of Buddhas so covered in centuries-worth of gold leaf applied by pilgrims that they are unrecognisable: after this long they just look like amorphous blobs but they're still deeply revered.
