Description: A short walk from Red Canal Hotel but take a torch as limited street lighting. A great bistro style restaurant serving a large range if European (Try the Beef steak or fish and chips) and Asian food, main courses K5000 – K7000. A good selection of French and Australian wine starting from K12,500 per bottle. Fun atmosphere with fast friendly service. Busy on the nights we were there with mainly a younger local crowd so get there early for a table.

“Good enough only if you can't stand Myanmar food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

This is a restaurant for tourists who don't want to eat Burmese food (or other Asian food). It looks like an American diner, complete with license plates from many of the states, and one for Route 66.

If you want a mediocre hamburger or a mediocre plate of spaghetti, it's probably one of the best places in Mandalay to go. It's cheaper than your hotel restaurant, after all. But despite its claim for serving Asian food, it serves Asian food that tastes as if it was cooked in Des Moines for an American palate.

“Nice place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

It's a nice place to be at for dinner but there're cheaper reastaurants with at least the same level of food, courtesy and cleaning.
A tip... Ask for the menu with prices in clear otherwise you cannot know how much you r going to pay for your dinner!!

“Nice...cool...clean. Decent eats!”

Very nice modern cafe, really a restaurant, down by the main gate to the palace. I had a really good chicken (breast) burger that had an unusual and well thought out crispy hash brown on top. Yum

My gorgeous GF had a super well presented fruit salad and with plenty of fruit.

Lovely clean tasty cafe. Strangely the cafe does not serve, as a cafe always should, cakes or pastries, which is really very odd and must be corrected. .

“Good food, good price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

I stopped at City Cafe to have lunch during my day tour in Mandalay and it turned out to be quite a nice experience. My latte was perfectly made, and the grilled prawns were such delight that cooked to perfection and served with fresh side salad and fries. There is also free wifi in the cafe, but the connection was very slow while I was there, even so, I would still recommend this place to anyone visiting Mandalay.

“Almost fails to be a greasy spoon”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

This place features western food for desperate tourists. If that applies to you go by all means!
The chef imitates perfectly what one imagines to be an ambitious diner, the service has not the faintest clue of any foreign language, and the place is ridden with chain smoking Chinese enjoying the drinks, obviously highly appreciated by the local hot shots.
The ambiance is worth the visit.
