I am going to state before all reviews of hotels in Myanmar by saying that hotels are generally very expensive for what you get in Myanmar. My room was clean and a decent size, but I felt it was overpriced for what it was. The staff was very helpful. They helped me arrange a bus ticket and hotel in Bagan. There was hot water ( this is also rare for Myanmar). The bar on the roof was nice and relaxing. The drinks where good. The food though was okay and expensive. The breakfast was very good. The hotel itself is about 1 mile from the fort and downtown area. I personal didn't have a problem walking to the down town area, and there were plenty of motorbike taxis to catch to get you back. The internet in the hotel was spotty at best (This is going to be true for all hotels in Myanmar, the country doesn't have a good internet infrastructure yet.)

Following a very long day of dust and grime it was wonderful to be in a nice hotel. There is nothing fancy about this but it was clean and of good size and after coming from a horrible place in Bagon, the River View was a needed respite. We became quite fond of the roof top restaurant each night as I don't think there were other choices within walking distance. They also had very reasonable laundry service compared to the other hotels we had been at, thus we took the opportunity for them to wash almost everything which came back the quickly and nicely folded.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor and thus our River View mostly looked at trees. If the view is importan...

We stayed here for 2 nights in January and were very happy with our choice. As we arrived hot and dusty from our 14 hour boat trip from Bagan we weren't filled with hope to be honest, it is situated on the main road by the river and there is a lot life going on around: the markets are just down the road and the fishermen (and families) seem to live with their boats - it is noisy and dirty but that is life in Mandalay.
The reception is clean, light and airy and you are greeted with refreshing towels and drinks - very welcome.
We had a slight problem with our room: the water poured onto the floor from the bath rather than into it.... but within minutes a team from housekeeping arrived to try to sort it all out. They couldn't but without asking the duty manager was there, apologised and offered to move us to another room, which was a even nicer room. As we had only just arrived it wasn't a problem and the staff took care of the move. Potentially bad situation made good with no fuss or bother.
The room was very big (both were in fact) very clean, light, no noise, well appointed with hairdryer, robes etc.
They serve a happy hour (free cocktail of the day) on the roof terrace which is lovely while watching the sun-set. We ate there the first night and it was fine, not great but fine. The 2nd night we walked to a restaurant down the road (torch is handy though there is some lighting) that was about a 5-10 minute walk to the left of the hotel. No problem at all felt very safe. The other restaurant had entertainment on which was fun and the food was a little better.
The reception staff were really helpful: they arranged a car & driver for the day and a guide who was great - even though my brain was ready to explode at the end (so much information!)
I would definitely recommend having a guide if only for half a day as we were shown so much that we wouldn't have picked up on our own.
They also arranged a 'share taxi' for our onward adventure to Inle Lake. A fascinating trip and a bit hairy at times but we saw so much and the two people with us were very nice and looked after us, even helping with some shopping language problems at our lunch stop.

Back to the hotel: It offered all we had hoped for and more. The staff are friendly, professional and very informative. The rooms as mentioned clean, comfortable and large.
Yes, I would stay here again without ant hesitation and would recommend it to those lucky enough to be planning a trip to Myanmar. Enjoy!

Room Tip: The corner rooms have a double aspect.

We came here for a drink at the roof top bar and to enjoy the incredible view of sunset over the river and hills of the opposite bank. We soon regretted the decision to stay in the city centre, as this is the perfect view to wake up to and end the day in Mandalay. Our hotel in the city centre also had a roof top bar but the scene was a dusty jumble of concrete and timber houses intersected by traffic-choked streets below.

Getting around by foot in Mandalay is not for the feint hearted. The dust and fumes burn your throat as you walk in the street dodging the traffic that seems to move in all directions at once. From our hotel in the city centre, we finally made it on foot to the area known as 'mandalay religious sites' on trip advisor. This is in the west near the river, where one of the big markets is. This was one of the highlights of mandalay for us, meandering through the monasteries and shady streets, too small for heavy traffic-- with an occasional horse and cart passing by. At the waters' edge we crossed a teak wood bridge with only local kids flying kites and a few men napping under the roofed rest area in the middle of the bridge. This is a small branch of the Irrawaddy, and on the other side follow the ferris wheel to get to the banks of the main river. Here you find a large terrace cafe overlooking the river, and a little ways North from here is the River View Hotel. We liked this area so much we came back the next day-- a long, arduous walk from the city centre, but a short pleasant walk from this hotel.

There are taxis in front of the hotel to take you to the various sites further afield, such as mandalay Hill, the palace, etc. We also took a day trip by car to the sites in Awa and the Annawapura bridge-- all very much worth the effort, despite some sites being quite busy with other tourists.Definitely recommend visiting the temple on the other side of the bridge for its incredible frescos and ceiling paintings.

I also noticed that close to the hotel River View, you can take a ferry to the Mingun area which we visited on a separate river cruise to Bagan.

All in all, Though I did not stay here, I would say this hotel is the best choice location-wise in Mandalay. It also looked new and clean with friendly staff.

Set on the banks of the River Ayarwaddy with views of the river from

some of the rooms yet set among the poorest shanty towns of Mandalay

that exist on the riverbanks, this hotel gives good clean, well sized rooms if

hard beds. The bar on the roof top served the evening meal which is very

overpriced for Myanmar; equal to European prices but you have no

alternatives in the surrounding area. Breakfast is served in the ground

floor cafe and was quite good. Staff were helpful especially in arranging

onward transport at reasonable prices. As usual WiFi as free but the

internet did not work.

It does have a small outdoor swimming pool but seemed little used as it is

set at dusty street level.

Along the river, you get to enjoy the sunset each night from your room or the rooftop bar. It's the feature that distinguishes this comfortable hotel with large rooms from the others. I had a room on the top floor, but with city views - which was fine, since I got to enjoy the sunset with a sundowner at the bar. Noise was a bit of an issue with music blaring into the night (it was a weekend) and early in the morning. No eating opportunities within walking distance which was a big disappointment, but nice to be able to walk to nearby fish and flower markets early in the morning to see daily life unfold.

Room Tip: Most people prefer the river view, which totally makes sense, but I liked being on a high floor (4th...

Let’s face it, Mandalay is a city. In fact it is the second largest city in Myanmar so finding a hotel with a relaxing ambiance is not so easy, especially one that is affordable. The Ayarwaddy Riverview hotel is a great choice especially if you request a room facing the river. Opened in 2011, Ayarwaddy River View Hotel is just 15 minutes to Mandalay center, flower market, and 60 minutes from the airport. Ideally located in the prime touristic area of Northern Mandalay, the hotel is in an easy access to the city's myriad attractions and landmarks, such as Mayan Chan Jetty, Thiri Mandala Bus Station (for Monywa, Shwebo), and Chanthaya Paya. The Royal Palace and Mandalay Mountain are do-not-miss attractions.
Guests are greeted with a welcome drink and refreshing towel. The accommodations are large and well furnished. Breakfast and the internet are complimentary. Guests can enjoy their pool, a massage, spa, fitness center, and other amenities. But what makes the Ayarwaddy Riverview Hotel stand alone is the rooftop dining room with a view of the river and setting sun. And, on most evenings at sunset they have “free-flowing” cocktails featuring the cocktail of the day. Plus, during dinner a man plays the traditional Myanmar xylophone. Following an hour of delightful music guest can enjoy a traditional puppet show. For more information check Ayarwaddyriverview-hotel.com.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a river view.
