When I booked this hotel in London, I had my reservations as it looked somewhat gloomy. I decided to upgrade to a Junior Suite as I thought we would then have a sitting area. To my amazement, we ended up with two enormous double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room!

Every possible surface was clad or made of wood which isn't really my taste as it makes the room dark. The suite was spotlessly clean but the bed very hard so I had to request a topper over the mattress for the second night. I cannot sleep with feathers and the pillows were very hard.

Happy hour was just that - from 5.30 - 6.30 pm. We were given a couple of rather tacky vouchers for a choice of three cocktails and a dish of peanuts. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel but I found the breakfast rather dull and uninspiring. Having said that, it was ok. The dinner menu was varied but expensive.

The swimming pool was well-maintained and spotless but it was impossible to sit around it as the hotel is building an extension and all you could hear was the construction noise.

Every evening the hotel puts on a puppet show for guests from 7-9pm. We needed to get to bed early and all we could hear was the plink-plonk of the music. Very annoying and unnecessary every single night.

One of the bathrooms had a bad design fault in that the bath was next to a window so that when I showered, the water splashed all over the window sill and the curtains.

I found the staff extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were very eager to please. The location of this property is not ideal as there is only one restaurant within walking distance of the hotel. There is nowhere to go walking as the hotel lies down a long side street in a residential area.

Room Tip: The Junior Suites are huge!

I am surprised there are any trees left in Myanmar as this hotel seems to have cornered the market in wood. We stayed in a junior suite which had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so unusually for us my wife took one bedroom and myself the other, which made a snore free night for my wife. Huge rooms and huge beds, which are extremely firm, but the hotel put something under the sheets to soften it. Teak walls and beautiful polished teak parquet flooring. The bathrooms are adequate but could use an update. Mine had a huge bath and a sink with a rubber plug that still would not hold the water in.

There is a nice swimming pool and a spa. The hotel offer guests 15 minutes of complimentary massage, but this is on for a Thai massage through your clothing, but a teaser to try another massage. $50 for a 1 hour aromatherapy massage, or $40 for a Thai massage.

There is a happy hour between 5.30 and 6.30 where guests get a complimentary choice between 3 different cocktails and a bowl nuts.

There are dinner tables by the pool or an inside restaurant and an outside bar area with bar stools, but watch out for the mosquitos as the are very hungry and are looking for your body to attack, so spray yourself liberally with repellant. Also ask the hotel to spray your bedroom as they are definitely in evidence.

The biggest drawback on the hotel is the new extension being constructed which would make lying by the pool during the day a less than restful experience. At night and every night there is a puppet/marionette show which lasts for nearly 2 hours from 7.30pm so if you did want an early night the sound of the accompanying drumming and wooden xylophone music permeates the bedrooms.

The restaurant prices are expensive and it will cost about $6 to take a taxi to an outside restaurant.

The staff are delightful and it will be interesting to see what the decor of the new extension is like when it is finished. The breakfast area is outside close to the pool and has everything you could need.

A good hotel in a quiet side street which could do with an update.

Room Tip: Make sure you bring mosquito repellant

The hotel is fairly newly built, and it has beautiful teak rooms with nicely sized bathrooms and well manicured gardens. The staff was incredibly friendly, and it was the only hotel my wife and I stayed at in Myanmar that had a gym (and a nice one at that!). I would definitely recommend the hotel, but there were several things that detracted from the stay.

1) The hotel is located on the east side of Mandalay on a rather quiet street. It is not really near any restaurants or sites, so your dining/entertainment options are essentially limited to those on the property.

2) The prices at the restaurant are pretty hefty (for Myanmar), and, given that you don't have many options, it was very disappointing that the food was average at best. Additionally, between the hours of 6 and 9, all diners are subjected to the "traditional" marionette show. The performers are the hotel staff so their puppetry/singing/musical skills leave something to be desired. We were there prior to the tourist high season, so there is a good change that we only saw the show in "previews" and it has since improved.

3) The staff was very friendly, but somewhat untrained.

4) When we were there, the tennis court was being turned into additional rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe (Cherry) room, which was very spacious.

The hotel is beautifully designed, no doubt about it. In terms of looks, it should get five stars. Unfortunately, it's not necessarily functional, and the staff is friendly, but not as professional as you'd expect from a hotel like this. We had one of the cherry rooms, probably the design flaws are less profound in the suites - it's the smaller spaces where they matter.
Just a few examples, small each one of them: The room has a dry bar with an impressive wine rack and the teak wood finish is amazing. But they couldn't fit the fridge into the wine bar, so it sits in a separate open shelving unit that also houses the safe and a small bare light bulb to illuminate it. It also houses the water boiler that has a british power plug while there is no power outlet anywhere near the bar and all other are for US plugs. This separate shelving unit plus the dry bar take so much space that there is only room for one small luggage rack - if you have two suitcases and don't want to unpack for a day, you end up with one suitcase on the floor.
The oversized bed takes up so much room that there's room for one bedside table only, the second one is replaced by a cheap plastic clip lamp fixed to the bed post.
The bathroom has absolutely no space to put toiletries, the shower head is installed next to the window that the window curtains get wet. I could go on, but it's more the accumulation of design flaws that gets you annoyed rather than one specific one.

An excellent. hotel were it not for the strange lightning in the room. With a.o. a striplight in the room and striplight also in the bathroom. Nevertheless spacious wooden room in this beautifully located in a gorgeous tropical garde boutique hotel (20 rooms). Will be extended with 24 more rooms which unfortunately caused lots of noise when relaxing at the beautiful and very large pool. Very good food for dinner, with every night local music, marionettes and dance. Which can become also too much after two evenings! Breakfast is top and the staff is extremely kind and helpful. Top service. The restaurant is beautifully located in the midst of the garden. Special attention at dinner upon arrival for my wife's birthday, flowers and singing, which the staff had deducted from the passport! Having booked a junior suite it turned out to consist of two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room. Quite comfortable.

Just an afternoon visit, but I was given a guided tour by the manager. A lovely spacious, new, clean and very wooden (teak!) resort with friendly staff, a good sized pool, gym, spar and outside bar. This place exudes quality and tranquility. A bit out of the way for anyone without transport though.

Set a bit out of Mandalay, this impressive teak resort has very-well maintained pools (the attendants were constantly at work even when there was no-one swimming/splashing in them), a splendid outdoor eating area complete with bar, offering a moderately-sized menu of oriental and international fare and cultural entertainment nightly. Our very private suite, approached through carved timber gates, had rooms opening onto a communal living area. We were somewhat reluctant to leave this secluded tree-shaded haven, where everything worked and was so cosy, for full-on excursions to sample the tourist activities in and around the city. The staff members were charming and very attentive, and management ensured our check-in and check-out were smoothly handled. Superb.

Room Tip: The suites are excellent hideaways, near the pools, for family groups.
