“Bustling Medina”
Reviewed August 28, 2014

Sousse is the 3rd largest city in Tunisia (according to our taxi driver) and is bustling and noisy. The traffic is very busy as well and Tunisian drivers don't give much quarter if you are trying to cross the road. Especially watch out for cars with Libyan and Algerian plates - completely mad drivers. Once you get to the medina it is very busy. Lots of cheap fake designer gear. Interesting street food on sale everywhere (great kebabs). Barter hard and you will get your bargain however I was surprised at the low level of hassle. You must visit the Soula Centre fixed price department store (see separate review) which really has got some high quality merchandise at reasonable prices. An enjoyable morning out.

“Start haggling”
Reviewed August 25, 2014 via mobile

Remove your all-inclusive armband and visit the medina of Sousse! It was the best we visited around Skanes!

We got some great things for a very good price! We haggled a leather bag from 240 dinar just to 50 (like 23 euro's). Shoes just for 15 (7,50 euro's)

Be careful you don't pay to much!

Felt comfortable having the rep with us when buying in the market and shops but found the heat was unbearable when walking around.

“Interesting Insight”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

I went with my wife to this location as part of a Thomas Cook excursion, so my view may be limited. We were first taken to the Soula centre, this is a fixed price shop- this was located in the main square. In here they sold practically everything including carpets! at reasonably good prices, you can buy food and use the toilet in here.

We then had a walk around the streets of the medina within the old walls. The local people were very friendly and didn't cause any issues. There are many shops selling designer (ish) goods at good prices, with some of the shops its worth haggling as you will get a good deal. Some of the stalls can get pushy but just say no thank you and be polite - then they shouldn't give you any grief.

It is very hot during the day but there is plenty of shade. This is worth a visit if you are heading this way.

“Don't go in the Heat”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

If you go to the Medina, try to go with someone who speaks Tunisian, otherwise, you are likely to get ripped off. It is safe, so you don't really have to worry about being robbed or anything, but beware of pickpockets. Most importantly, do NOT go in the Afternoon as the sun is scorching hot, try to go at around 6 PM or so, when it has cooled down a bit.
