If your looking for a holiday in a good hotel with great facilities right on a beautiful sandy beach with a relaxing atmosphere then this ticks all the boxes. Perfect for children who like to play in the sea as stays shallow for a long way out, while you can chill on the comfy sun loungers enjoying drinks being served to you...Bliss!

just come back from the tej marhaba for the 10th yr running with a friend, this is the review you need to take notice off - yes its an old hotel yes it does need modernising (which now the son has taken over this is being done with new furniture in lounge and outside for relaxing in the evening and tiling the outside to the pool with the bedrooms being next) but the warm and friendly welcome you get everytime makes it worth while going to the tej, the walk to the beach is not a big issue yes you have to cross a busy road and then walk down a tiled walkway (better this year now its been tiled) but hey once you get to beach just enjoy yourself there's decent toilets and food to have which they wil deliver to your sunbed. go out in the evening for a meal i would recommend the farmers (best steak house ever with a fab jacket potatoe) by the saloon or just by the el hana hotels (not the front end) and la fiesta rest perfect. dont knock this hotel until you've been its relaxing no hassle friendly just perfect for a lazy holiday - oh yes one man complained cos he couldnt get bacon!!! go to the rose and crown just outside the pool area and you can have the breakfast brunch with bacon !!! how sad was that ha ha. The food in the hotel is basic but you do get a good choice of hot or cold buffett but it is good and substantial. i hope whoever does read this go and try for themselves this lovely hotel yest i know its not a 4/ 5 star but i think overall i think you wont be disappointed, oh yes if you do go ask for markram (mark) waiter in dining room and tell him the 2 welsh girls cheryl and kathryn recommended him to look after you (and he will)

Having just got back from my first visit to Tunisia I have to say that this hotel is perfectly fine if you've got a bargain deal, but if we'd have paid a fortune for our holiday we would have been expecting much better considering it's meant to be a four star hotel. I'd say in it's heyday it probably earned every one of it's stars but it's looking tired now and feels more like a 3 star. There are some re-furbishment works taking place at present which should hopefully help. We found some parts of the hotel were out of use / very poor. The gym / leisure centre isn't open anymore. The indoor pool was pretty grim and didn't seem to be that well looked after. We didn't see a single person use it whilst we were there, but then again I guess they wouldn't need to at this time of year.

The snack area is bizarre. It's almost like they're not used to getting food and drink orders in there. Chaotic. There's also a very bizarre system that every time you order a drink, you have to sign a receipt. Weirdly the staff seem to add extra drinks onto your bill, which doesn't really matter if you're all inclusive but it's very strange. Our rep actually mentioned this to us in the welcome meeting and advised us to amend the quantities to what we had actually ordered. We did this on about 10 occasions. Very odd.

Our actual room was lovely. Much better than we had hoped. Unfortunately our air conditioning was broken upon arrival. To be fair they repaired it quickly the first time. 2nd time took a bit longer. We asked for a sea view room when checking in and were given one, which was great. The view is pretty terrible if you don't get a sea/pool view room, so it's worth asking.

As for the food, I'm very much into trying the local foods etc and was hoping for lots of cous cous etc, but we were very disappointed with the variety and quality of the food. Cous cous was only served on one evening and having looked forward to that all week, we were gutted. Myself and my partner both had stomach upsets (on separate days) and a few other people we spoke to had stomach upsets. I'm not saying it was from the definitely from the food, but we only drank bottled water whilst in Tunisia.

You get assigned a table upon arrival and you are meant to sit at this table for the entire holiday. I think they assume that everybody eats at the same time though and lots of people were turning up for dinner only to find somebody sat at "their" table. Very odd set-up and not really be-fitting of a 4 star hotel. We found the staff ok. I think it probably helps if you tip the waiter at the start of the holiday, or let them know that you intend to tip them at the end of the holiday (as advised by our rep). We found most staff to be alright, but not overly friendly or helpful, apart from the lovely chap who serves your eggs!

If you're somebody who doesn't want a cooked / continental breakfast every day, then I'd advise taking some cereals with you! The only options for cereals were brown flakes or white flakes. These actually looked like ice cream wafers broken up into pieces. Absolutely grim. The selection of breads were great though and the eggs were lovely.
We were hoping for some decent fish but most of the fish served up was fried and not very tasty, which was a shame.

There's another odd set up with the safe. You don't have one in your room. It's a safety deposit box (not very big really) and it's situated behind reception in a separate room. It's 10 dinar deposit and 7 dinars for the week, which was fair. Just means that you have to go down to reception everytime you want one of your valuables!

The private beach is great, although you have to cross a busy road to get to it. It's a shame the locals don't look after the beaches. We saw loads of litter just being discarded all the time. Unfortunately the hotel staff only look after the beach in front of the hotel, so there were lots of grotty bits of beach if you went for a walk. Overall we were pretty happy with our stay but just felt the hotel and the resort are letting themselves down.

P.S. Whilst out and about in Sousse, don't be fooled by any locals pretending to be your transfer bus-driver / chef from the hotel (delete as applicable)! I assume they were trying to lead us to shops where they would get some kind of commission for bringing in customers! This happened on a couple of occasions.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a sea view room (might be worth learning how to say that in French)!

Before we left, we were a little worried as we had read some bad reviews.. but once there we found the hotel lovely, people were friendly and the animation team was the best by far of anywhere we had been before!!!
ok so the rooms are a little dated but clean! not a massive selection of foods but enough and there was some work going on around the hotel but was no disruption to us at all.
We enjoyed our stay so much we are already looking to go back asap!!

so each to there own but if you ask us it was an amazing experience we will never forget.

First of all a quick update on the Enfida Airport. To compare it to Monsatir is like chalk and cheese. There is no real comparison! Now there are about 12 passport control desks to get you into the country. Flying home and there is a choice of 60 departure gates. This experience made everything so much more easier. The downside is that the time to get to your hotel may well take anywhere between 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on the number of drop offs.
Now to the hotel. The owner and his son are to be congratulated on capital expenditure, at a time when most are cutting back. New lifts were being installed, the only problem was that the mock wooden interiors had already been defaced. Not so much the English etc., unless they were named Hadji or Ali.
Once the lifts had been finished and tidied up, all the corridor carpets were due to be replaced throughout. Trouble is unless you solve why the rainwater stains the carpets in the first placve, then you will just get the news ones stained later. On all the floors the normal windows that used to open at the lift areas have been replace by full length 6 foot high glass from wall to wall. The views to the gardens are really great now.
Not content with that it now turns out that all the old style televisions that are in the rooms, are going to be replaced by plasma screens. These were stuck at customs control at the time. Then for some the really good news, each room is to be fitted ouit with wifi access. As I understand it there will be a charge to get the code to access wifi. Management would be well advised not to set the price too high to start with. After all one can soon amble down to Fontinella's and for the price of a coffee obtain wifi for free!
To anyone thinking of going to this hotel I would say book now for next year as we have already done so as to get the best benefit from this hotel before it gets upgraded and increased in price.
The lack of people travelling to Tunisia due to fears about the place is totally misplaced. Those people living in Sousse have already paid a terrible price for the trouble that occurred mainly ti the capital Tunis. Many went without food.
The upside was that there were virtuall no long queues at dinner time, such a refreshing change. Just stroll in and get what you want. Also noted that where the cakes and bread are at breakfast time, in the evening there was a guy baking fresh pizzas. In general the quality of the meals seemed to have improved.

Overall our party had a thoroughly great time and myself and my great wife will be back there again in September when once more we look forward to meeting up with Ali our waiter, and of course Ali the remarkable sunlounger guru.
Also one last thing. The walk way down the side of the Movenpicks hotel to the Tej Marhabe beach ares has now been blockpaved completely.

we stayed at this hotel 15-22 june 2011, wasnt expecting much as paid very little for holiday, pleasently surprised upon arrival, hotel was very clean and staff very welcoming, we stayed half board and found food to be hot, plenty to choose from, and varied every day, plenty of meat dishes, salads, and pasta dishes, desserts plentiful, always found my fussy husband something to eat without any complainig from him which makes a change.although there was a little work being carried out at this hotel to update this didnt interfere with our stay and would highly recommend this hotel, but we would definatly stay all inclusive next visit as drinks are quite expensive
