“Great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Had a great time here with my family. Animation excellent. Bar staff a bit grumpy until you tip them. Reception changed our room no problem as we wanted a ground floor due to our little one. Food was what you expect going all inclusive but in this hotel they set the snack bar up at night 4 dinner just for british people we found this better than the main restaurant. Finally the russians ar arrogant so give them plain english to beeb off when they jump the cue they tend not to do it again if your in the cue.

This was our first family holiday abroad, we travelled for two weeks all inclusive 22 may to 5th june'13. After reading some of the bad reviews we were feeling very nervous of what to expect from this hotel but me and my family all loved it and would certainly return. The hotel has a very grand lobby and our room though not as fancy was very spacious and kept immaculate by the friendly chamber maid. Travelling with our two year old son the playground proved a god send. Right next to the pool area, it had three different slides, two see-saws and three swings for him to play on. The grounds are extremely well maintained and give great views and the beach is just gorgeous!. White sands, plenty of loungers, warm sea even in late may and only two minutes walk from the pool. The security are very friendly and will remove sellers if they see they are pestering you. To avoid the sellers altogether there is roped off areas where they can not come past so if you wanted you could choose to have your beds there although a firm no thank you is enough to send them on their way. The tunisian people are all very friendly, particularly with children, were always willing to kick a ball about with them. Our waiter always had a smile and decorated our table on our last night which was lovely. The food is the only thing that could be improved. It is always hot which is good but could certainly be more varied. Saying that we never went hungry and there is always a childrens option available. The soup was always nice and was different most days also a large range of different deserts available (never found one i didnt like). Omletttes for breakfast is a must have, made in front of you and delicious! We had three children which went to the kids club, all had a great time. Hannah Banana and Donna Kebab are both great with them.

Tips: El Jem and the Zulu trip are both brilliant excursions to go on
Take a lot of high factor sun cream!- only had two days which were partly cloudy during our whole stay and the uv level is high there. Burnt ourselves a couple of times even with factor 50 on. The slight breeze helps ease against the heat and the pool is very cool to dip in.

Wouldnt hesitate to recommend this hotel, cant wait to go back some time

What a fantastic hotel, don't be put off by the reviews regarding Russians as we had no problems with them. Thomson have arranged for the pool snack bar to be used by British guests for the evening meal but we used the main restaurant which was fantastic. The food selection was superb although the drink selection was limited. If we travelled again I would take a bottle of my favorite spirit. The animation team were fantastic and worked incredibly hard and the shows were great especially the fire show. If you are going to take any Thomson trip during your stay make sure it is the Sahara one. What a fantastic time we had. Excellent value for money. We travelled as a family of three (two adults and one child 10) we all had à blast and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This was our first overseas holiday with children and it exceeded our expectations in all aspects! We are a family of 4, with 3 year old twins and we had an amazing 2 weeks at this fabulous hotel!
The hotel itself is lovely - beautifully kept, very clean and pretty gardens. We were on the 4th floor in a superior family room (which actually was 2 full size interconnecting rooms, both with huge bathrooms, balconies and fridges) and we had gorgeous views over the pool and sea. The reception area is stunning and leads onto a big terrace with tables and chairs and lovely views.
The restaurant is nice - well laid out and we liked the fact we were allocated a table for our whole stay. There are 2 sittings for dinner and we chose 6-8pm which suited us perfectly. There have been some negative comments on here about the food, but we really enjoyed it. There were always 2 things being freshly cooked (meat and/or fish), as well as many other dishes, all of which were good quality and hot. There was also the pizza and pasta station and there was always a roast of the day. The soups, salads and breads were also good. There wasn't always a huge variety of fruit, but what there was was plentiful - nectarines, strawberries, apricots, oranges, watermelon. We also really enjoyed the desserts and the ice creams! Oh and the freshly cooked doughnuts in the morning and the pancakes morning and afternoon! The wine and beer on the all inclusive were also very good. There were about 4 alcoholic cocktails which you could have, which were OK.
The Thomson Kid's Club was fantastic and it was brilliantly run by "Claire Bear" and "Hannah Banana" who the kids adored! There was usually at least one 2 hour session a day and often there were 2 sessions - our girls had a fabulous time and we got some chillout time! There was also the mini disco on every night from 8.30pm, which the kids also loved. We never stayed for any of the other entertainment, but it was mainly performed by the entertainment team.
The pool was lovely with a nice kids section. Our girls had immense fun in and round the pool every day, making lots of friends. There were always plenty of sun beds - parasols were a bit few and far between, but the pool guys would always find you one if you wanted one. The kids playground was also right next to the pool area, so it was easy to keep an eye on them! There was a hotel run kid's room by the pool, where they could play games or do drawing, but the staff in there didn't seem too interested in interacting with the children. There is a great shop by the pool which sells buckets and spades, inflatables, souvenirs etc etc, all at a very reasonable price. Walk just past the pool, down a few steps and you are on the beautiful beach where there are also plenty of sunbeds.
We did a few trips while we were there - all booked with our Thomson Rep. We went to El Djem which is a Roman Amphitheatre, followed by a pirate boat cruise - amphitheatre was amazing and so well preserved (take the climb up to the top for some superb views) and the pirate boat was fun. We also went to the market and a vineyard - good bargains and fun to be had in the market and the wine tasting is great! Lastly, we went to Frigua Park which is an animal park. It was only a half day and we didn't have enough time there, but it was a lovely park and you get some great views of the animals.
Just outside the hotel, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. There are also a few shopping centres, 10-20 minutes walk away. You can also catch the "Noddy Train" (a little road train) from outside the hotel (just put up your hand anywhere along the road to stop it) and for a few dinar you can have a lovely trip to Port El Kantoui (to the right out of the hotel) which is a purpose built area with little shops, cafes etc - very pretty and nice to stroll around. If you catch the train and go left, you end up in Sousse where there are more shops and the medina. We enjoyed the journey, but Sousse itself was dirty and smelly and we were soon hurrying to catch the train back to our lovely hotel!
All in all, an amazing holiday, fantastic value for money and we loved every minute!

We found Hotel Tour Khalef to be a very well run hotel with friendly helpful staff. The hotel has lovely spacious grounds with large swimming pool and sun bathing area. The bedrooms were very clean, we had a family room on the ground floor that sleeps 4 and was big enough. The beach has fine sand and is spacious, the beach sellers cannot come past the beach front so are not a problem. The entertainment team were great fun working hard all day and every evening. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing family holiday, it has good facilities and friendly atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ground floor family rooms are bigger because do not have a balcony so comfortably fit 4 beds.

Stayed 26th May till 2nd June 2013. First impression of the lounge/reception area was very good. Our room was one of the most spacious we had stayed in, with a lovely big balconey and a large flat screen tv (english language films on channel 16).
The hotel itself is very clean and tidy, the staff we had dealings with were fabulous, helpful and polite.
I can't complain about the food, or the choices presented. You can sit anywhere for breakfast and lunch, but your table is reserved for dinner (2 sittings) and you must sit there. You can also eat at the pool bar on a night if you wish as both restaurants offer some different dishes.
I agree with some of the other reviewers that mealtimes can be horrendous due to the large amount of ignorant greedy guests (mainly Russian) and I was horrified at the amount of food these gluttons wasted-they would pile their plates up, not touch most of it and then the waiters would throw it away.
Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, and if you tip the waiters a couple of dinars now and then, they'll bring you your drinks so you can avoid the queue at the all inclusive bar.
Do the same thing on the beach with the security guy, and he'll make sure you get a sunbed in a good spot every day.
