Hi ,have just returned from tunisia fron a weeks holiday in sousse, and the best thing about the holiday was the hotel, it was friendly and the staff were off great help if you needed it, rooms were clean and all bed linen and towels were changed daily.
The only problem we had was with the hassle you get when you go shopping in the medina, they make up all kinds of stories to get you into the shops and my wife had 100 dinars taken from he hands from a shop keeper because she wasn't counting out the money fast enough, they keep on with the hasselment until you buy something from them, so beware and be carefull in the medina.would not go back to tunisia because of that.

Book from the UK; it's cheaper that way.
We were looking for somewhere to lay our heads that was reasonably convenient for getting round by public transport. And figured we couldn't go wrong at the price.
Reviews had suggested it would be 'hostel' type accommodation, but it's much much better than that. Comfy beds, good big room, clean, ensuite, loads of hot water, balcony over the town. OK it's on a main road, but no problem. Only a few minutes from the beach.

About 20 - 25 mins walk from the railway station and a bit further for the metro, and a taxi needed for the longer distance buses. Be prepared to haggle for the taxi fare. We got around to Tunis, El Jem, Monastir, Mahdia, Sfax. Spent time in the medina (just say NON!) We had the choice at the end of the day of coming back and eating at the Kaiser, or going to any of lots of eateries.

The staff were helpful and friendly - as it was mid March I guess it's a quiet time of year and it might be different in high season, though we had no reason to expect that. Being prepared to have a go in French and learn a few words in Arabic was fun too.

We went to a hamam in the medina, and I had a spa treatment in the Hotel which was REALLY good value. Monia was wonderful.

For cheap and cheerful it far exceeded our expectations.

I will just be repeating what everyone else has been saying. For a budget hotel (we paid £93 for bed & breakfast for seven nights for the two of us), we could not ask for any more. Clean, friendly and in a good central position. The breakfast is bread, croissants, cheese, salami, eggs everyday, but it's all fresh and you help yourself to as much as you want so you can set yourself up for the day on it. The beach is just down the road, and we walked along it to the right for the medina and left to Port El Kantoui (not for the faint hearted, it's quite a way). I always say that if I have somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep and somewhere to have a shower, then that is all I need, a holiday is what you make it. The Kaiser fits the bill perfectly.

Well - we arrived with intrepidation after reading such negative comments on here but we really had nothing to worry about. Yes it's a basic, budget hotel but you get what you pay for and we could only afford a last minute, cheap holiday. The staff were very friendly, the hotel was clean, the room was clean, the beds were really comfy, the TV worked and there was loads of hot water in the excellent shower. We only slept and washed in the room so it served us well. We were in a "city view" room which meant at the front of the hotel on the main road - it's busy at all hours of the day and night but wasn't loud enough to stop us from sleeping. The maid gave us a good clean and tidy every day including fresh linen.
The bar area was always busy with residents and locals. Beware of the drunken Brits wanting to befriend you!! They are harmless but lonely and will buy anyone a drink for some company.
Breakfast wasn't very exciting but was fine for us - French bread, croissants, cheese triangles, boiled eggs, cereals, jams. It set us up for the day. We also tried the restaurant attached to the hotel which serves good pizza and yummy briks at such low prices.
The pool area is small but quiet and really fine - with an attendant happy to help you with moving sunlounges and even getting your drinks.
The spa in the basement is amazing with such well priced treatments - I certainly can recommend the two hour treatment for 70DT (about £35) - amazing!) My skin has never felt so soft.
The location of the hotel is spot on for nightlife. The restaurants on the same street are spot on - delicious food, great service and cheap prices. There are tea rooms for non-alcoholic refreshments and chicha pipes and a snooker hall. There are plenty of pubs/clubs nearby if that's your thing - probably best to get a taxi to these. Bonaparte and L'Esgargot were our favourite restaurants and the local red wine is also very nice.
The beach is a five minute walk away. The medina is about a half hour walk away but be prepared to be hassled! We tackled it over three days as it quickly became too much in a short space of time! Beware of locals trying to befriend you saying they are a chef/waiter in your hotel. This is a scam and will lead you into a carpet shop, a jewellery shop, a leather shop and a footwear shop! Plus you'll be expected to pay for the privilege.
The train station and metro station are close to the medina - easy to get to be foot or taxi. Taxi rides are only a couple of quid and plentiful - a godsend in the heat of the day when you can't walk any further!
The catacombes are a big let down - but the Noddy Train to Port El Kantaoui is a hillarious experience!! The excursions from your hotel rep are very expensive but really the only way to experince anything outside of the resort - unless you hire a car. The roads however are really busy and driving is hazardous to say the least - good luck crossing the roads!!
Although we wouldn't go back to Tunisia we did have a great holiday and it wouldn't have been the same if we weren't in the Kaiser!

I wasn’t expecting much from Hotel Kaiser from reading the other reviews so was really pleasantly surprised by the high standard of cleanliness and good decent size rooms. Most importantly, the hotel is close to all the facilities you are likely to need if you are planning to explore, including the train station (a 20 minute walk), the metro station (another 20 minute walk), the centre of Sousse and the beach (8 minutes).

We stayed in one of the rooms on the front of the hotel and didn’t really find the noise of the road outside a problem. The road outside Hotel Kaiser also has far less traffic than a lot of the other major hotels in Sousse, which have much busier roads in comparison.
The breakfast was the standard continental fare and nothing exceptional. On the plus side, Hotel Kaiser is also one of the few Tunisian restaurants that can serve a decent pizza if you are after some familiar food.

Finding somewhere for an evening beer was a little more tricky. If, like me, you hate spending all your holiday sat in the same hotel, then I would recommend Hotel Claridge for a good place to people watch in central Sousse. Local venues within a five-minute walk of Hotel Kaiser are ‘The English Pub’, which is pretty dull and has the atmosphere of an empty shop unit, ‘The Rose and Crown’, which is pretty similar although with much comfier chairs, and the pub at ‘Napoleon Bonaparte’, although this often doesn’t open until about 9:30ish.

Overall, I would recommend the Hotel Kaiser, especially after seeing how remote some of the other ‘central Sousse’ hotels actually were, and also because they offered a good decent service for the cost of the hotel. However, if you are keen on sitting round the pool all day then you might want to pay for a more expensive hotel because the pool / sunbed area can get very over crowded.
