We booked a package with Airtours to spend a week at this hotel.

After checking in we were taken to our room by the porter.First impressions not good the wall next to the bedhead looked like a can of coke had been sprayed allover. The furniture appeared tatty and dirty.

We decided to go to the restaurant for lunch. We were shown to a cramped shared table and I asked to be moved which they did.As others have said it really does look like a school canteen.

Unfortunately the hotel was playing host to several national teams playing in the African nations basketball cup(as were several other hotels). All the players descended on the restaurant the same time as us.They were literally queueing out of the door. When the queue lessoned,I went up to the buffet and all the food had gone,no word of a lie. They were replenished but there wasn't that great a choice to start with.

After lunch we went out into the lounge/bar areas, but there wasn't a seat to be had for the same reason above.

My partner spoke with the Thomas Cook/Airtours rep called Jess. When told of our initial thoughts she said no problem go look at a room at the sister Marhaba hotel and if we wanted we could move there.

This we did.On entering the reception of the Marhaba,it was like another world. We were taken to look at a room and decided to change hotels immediately.

How the Marhaba Club can be assessed to be superior to the Marhaba I'll never understand.

See my review for my thoughts on the Marhaba hotel.I should say that Jess was very helpful and understanding and a credit to Thomas Cook.

Room Tip: Ask to move to sister Marhaba hotel!

Went to marhaba club summer 2012 and loved it, also went in the summer just gone however stayed in marhaba hotel, and have just been AGAIN at marhaba club in october. Think it's quite obvious how much we love it! There is little difference between the 2 hotels as they share facilities however I would suggest eating in the marhaba hotel resteraunt!. We have never even considered going on a winter holiday before but we went back in october and we're even looking to go back in February! Animation team were great as always, they are always there offering activities or even just a chat. weather was still decent even thought it was october, it's just an all round lovely hotel. All the staff put just as much hard work in less busy seasons as they do in the summer. There is plenty to do outside of the hotel and you feel very safe daytime or night-time. Maid service was brilliant and our rooms were always clean. People expecting 5* luxury, don't go to Tunisia? Know plenty of other people who have gone back to the marhaba complex more than once as well because they enjoyed it so much, lovely hotel!!! Oh and these people saying that they expect a tip, that is rubbish! We tipped because they all work so hard out there and yes, if you do tip you do get better service, however no one is forcing you to! Please ignore the bad reviews, it's an amazing hotel and great value for money!

Having read a number of poor reports we were more than pleasantly surprised. Let's start with the negatives the bathroom could do with a refurb but we didn't plan and spend our holiday in the bathroom! It was cleaned every day as was the rest of our room. The food was superb. There are some reports about the lack of variety I can only assume these comments came from those seeking a basic English menu. At every meal there was plenty of choice, thankfully no English breakfast, and the menu changed every day. The 'Tunisian' night was superb. Salad bar excellent. Location, on the beach and walking distance to the Medina, as long as you visit during the day the Medina is safe. Avoiding your chef or waiter on the sea front turn over your wrist band that way they don't know your hotel. Not to be missed is the Sahara safari great value for money albeit 1200km in 2 days!

Room Tip: 4th floor with sea view

My partner and I stayed here for our first holiday away together and had a brilliant time. We paid just over £800 all in for our weeks holiday which was all inclusive and think for what you pay for it its good value! Pools were brilliant and the staff went out of there way to help you. Very clean and having the private part of the beach is great! Only tiny little downsides were the food was a little samey (personally I think that can be said of a huge majority of all inclusive resorts wherever they are) and it would be nice if they were able to do more about keeping the men selling camel rides, ciggarettes etc away from the pool side/ private beach a bit more but then they can't be all places at all times and if you are firm with them they leave you alone. Definetly recommend a trip to the madena as it is a great experience and this is best organised through the rep. Also the water sports on the beach front are great and well priced. Evening entertainment is a bit cheesey but again can be said for a lot of all inclusive places and its all good fun. Thinking about going back with my partners little one next summer as there was lots on for the kids. Weather is amazing but I recommend a very high sun factor if your fair like myself! All in all would definetly recommend it. :)

Room Tip: If you arrive as a couple and have been allocated a twin room if you mention it to the reception sta...

This review is based on a couple mid-late 20's. Remember you are going to an arab country and although they are alot poorer than the UK, they do thier best to keep up high standards.
The Hotel: Very clean, big entrance, free wifi in lobby, change your money up at the hotel (10 dinar = £3.80, obviously rates vary) DO NOT tip the tunisians in english coins as they cant change it up (the banks only allow notes) The hotel staff dont make you feel as though you should tip all the time however we tiped a few people and the people we tipped looked after us really well. Morad the pool waiter is excellent, he really looks after you, you also have a pool guy who will get your sunbeds out for you and if you tip him he will reserve them for you. The entertainment team are brilliant, always doing activities in the daytime and entertainment in the evening is brilliant, a big thanks to Bobo, Mano, Fifi, Mido & Toto who work hard to keep everyone entertained. The beach is fenced off and private with secutiry and life guards so non hotel guests cant enter, Tina at the water sports is lovely and will do you a good deal on water sports, at the beach you will find an area where you can get drinks and food with your all inclusive package. theres also bars and food areas by the pools as well. Outside the hotel you can turn either right or left and within a short minute walk you will find shops/ bars/ resturants, The Saloon resturant is really good, you feel safe walking outside the hotel in the daytime or evening, there is police at every roundabout so you have that extra security. The only critism i have is that the hotel needs to invest in a better quality of vodka and add more spirits such as amaretto and malibu etc, thier variety and quality of alcahole beverages isnt good and although we werent expecting to get drunk every night, its nice to relax with a decent cocktail, the hotel should invest in blenders and make proper cocktails with blended fruit and ice.. The food is good, there is always pizza, chips, ice cream and pasta for fussy people and theres loads of different dishes to try out every night and they are really nice (i wasnt ill at all as the food isnt greasy and most of it is freshly made) thier breads and pastries are lovely and freshly made every day, when we arrived we heard on trip adviser about the blue card that you had to give the resturant and it reserves your table for the whole stay, people were moaning about this but in actual fact it turnt out to be a brilliant idea because you hand them you card and then you have that table for the rest of you stay which means at busy times, you dont have to faf around finding a table. we were there for 2 weeks and a few nights ventured out and went to the resturants or stopped off for a burger.
Things to do: The Medina in Sousse is thier main shopping/ market area where you can barter, yes they will hassle you a bit but if you say no they will leave you alone. Port El Kataioui is lovely, so peacefull, from the taxi bay is you turn right u have the port with shops/ bars/ resturants and if you turn left you have lovely gardens surrounded by shops/ bars/ resturants. The African Dream trip is brilliant! We also did a catamaran boat trip as well as loads of water sports.
At the airport there will be porters waiting to carry your bags to your coach, at first we said no but actually we wish we said yes as it took us ages to find out coach, only issue is we tipped in english change which means nothing to them out there but they were still happy to help us.
In the 2 weeks we were there, we were never bored, always something to do, met loads of people.
For november, the weather was brilliant and everything was still open, we got a lovely tan. our first week was the kids half term and 2nd week they went back to school so we had one week which was busy with families and our 2nd week was alot quieter with couples and older people, both weeks still brilliant.
Tips: always tip in dinar, always barter below 50% of what they offer at the medina, palms shopping centre is really cheap (5 dinar for sunglasses etc) where as the medina you have to barter them down to get that. Saloon resturant is a must (at night it turns into a nightclub below the resturant and about 10 dinar a drink) always barter your taxi price before entering the taxi and make sure you confirm its dinar and not pounds as they try and rip you off, its about 3 dinar to the medina, 5 dinar to port el kataiou. If you fancy food/ kebab late one night, ask them to take you to 'La Cabane is number 1' resturant as all the tunisians go here and its brilliant food, we had 2x large cheeseburgers with chips and a drink each for 11 dinar which is about £4 in total.
Although the marhaba club has its own pool with a swimm up bar, you also share the kids pool with the marhaba hotel which is where the entertainment team are based, so you get the best of both worlds and get to meet people at the other hotel.
All in all we had a brilliant holiday and want to go back in may with the rest of the family, i would highly reccomend this place!

Room Tip: Make sure you write down that you want a sea view room and on the 3rd/4th floor, if you get a lower...

My husband and I stayed here for a week 3 nov to 10 nov. Weather was in the 80s apart from a cloudy windy day. Check in was quick and had room 1452, room was lovely clean with a superb view of gardens beach and sea perfect. Staff are very friendly so not sure about some of the reviews about them being miserable, we had a good laugh and joke with them, but my husband and I are pretty outgoing so I'm sure that helped. I was worried about what the food was going to be like after reding reviews before I left, but was delighted to find a large range to choose from, every type of salad with additions of chillies olives and loads of other stuff to spice it up including oils mayo etc, soups, pastas, pizzas, with chicken, beef, stews, and fish each day a different country ie Italian, English, Tunisian etc the Tunisian kababs on skewers were lovely, desserts were to die for so had to allow myself only desserts on 3 out of the 7 days I was there or a I would of waddled home! We used the lobby bar quite a lot and chatted to other holiday makers and made some good pals especially the Scottish lads wee Davey and Mickey who we met on the camel ride, I blame them for missing a day of my holidays due to a massive hangover! We spent a lot of time on the beach which is lovely and also used the beach bar a lot. We tipped all the staff and they were very appreciative.
We went on a few trips which we booked from the lads at the beach bar who look after you and give you good advice about the day, we went on the pirate ship and had a good laugh, and went on the camel trip which I loved, this includes a visit to a pottery shop, coffe shop and watch a traditional bread maker make her bread in an open oven and it tasted great. When you go on the trips be prepared to tip and buy things as its not just the trip your paying for so be aware.
I loved this holiday and will be going back in June . I think a lot of the bad reviews are because I can imagine when it's at full capacity you would find queues everywhere where I didn't find that as the hotel was only half full which suited us just fine, don't allow bad reviews to put you off it's a lovely hotel with hard working staff who are smiley if you smile too .
