“A very good holiday (but warning thieves about).”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We went to the Marhaba Royal Salam from the 22\09\12- 01\10\12.The hotel was very nice, we had a lovely holiday. The food was fine, no complaints and the waiters at the tables looked after you. The Entertainment staff were fantastic and worked really hard and made you feel welcome. The barmen & waiters were always on hand to top up your glasses & if you tipped them here & there they do look after you. Now for my only winge, which is a big one. I heard stories of theft but took no notice, how wrong I was to do that. The day we left, my mobile phone was stolen from the baggage room, which I now regret leaving there. I raised the issue with reception, which was a waste of time, I complained and got different stories from different members of staff. I saw 2 members of staff in reception go in that room together and came out about 5-10 minutes later and questioned why they were in there and was told that they were allowed. It was funny that i saw one of them put something in their bag and just after that they went home. Thankfully I am sorting it out but just be careful and you will have a good time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up in the hotel level 4 or 5 because i believe they have been refurbished.

If you book via On the Beach, read your'e paperwork carefully we booked the Marhaba Royal
Salem and all our documents confirmed this except the hotel receipt which was typed in small
letters and was the Marhaba Salem so when we arrived we were put in there . This does seem to go on quite often, so you may not get the Hotel you think you booked in this complex, go for the cheapest not the most expensive as we did because you end up where they want to put you anyway . Apart from the rooms however of which we sampled three as each one we were given had something wrong the rest of the complex is shared and no matter which hotel you stay in you can use all the facilities. First I will mention the downside of the complex it is extemely large and the Beach is rather small with a lot of seaweed and rubbish, though they do do their best to keep it clear. This hotel was full of Russian's and Germans when we visited and they were up at about 5am reserving their beds down the Beach, so you had to get up early to get one, or tip the boys on the Beach and they reserve them for you. The large main Restaurant was a bit canteen like, however the quality and variety of the food provided was excellant and we discovered we could use the Restaurant in the Marhaba Royal Salem, which was much more civilised. The Beach bar was excellant as was the Snack bar for tea and cakes or pancakes with chocolate sauce. We would not return to this complex as it is definately a bit worse for ware and there were several complaints about the rooms whilst were there, we did not see any of the newely renovated rooms so cannot comment on these. The entertainment team worked hard and there was a different show on every night or if you preffered a more relaxed evening you could sit and have a quiet drink in one of the bars. The good thing about this complex was the staff, they were excellant alway friendly and helpful. Sousse and Port El Kantaoui are within easy reach by taxi or the little train and there are men on the beach from the hotel who sell trips and water sports all at reasonable prices. We did not try any of these as we have been to Tunisia several times before and wanted a relaxing holiday , However people we spoke to that did, found them to be good value for money.
Hope this is helpful

hotel very nice, plenty of pools, on the beach, (beach hut food not too nice) only downside is main pool is salt water :( food wasnt bad, i personally am quite fussy however all food is edible, and the pizza and pasta isnt bad. Chocolate crepes mid afternoon are fab.... but the best part of this hotel is by far the animation team, Sam Adriano Bebo Mario Alex etc, brilliant!! people really helpful and friendly cant fault the place to be honest.... if you go outside the hotel turn left and walk for about 5mins, you will find the best ice cream parlour.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room and you will get the newer part of the hotel

We stayed here in June.its not for those slightly immobile, too far to walk to the entertainment,We ate nearly everyday at poolside bar adjacent to the hotel, this needs a damn good clean. We had a stomach problem 3days out of 7. I asked via the REP would it be o.k to take food to my wife who'd hurt her back in a fall,[she was bedbound],Yes it was fine ,but, try and get out of the restauraunt without being questioned by a jobsworth,impossible........
Spirit measures barely lined the glass, beer was best to stick to but as a Caeliac, wasn't good.Breakfast was 2 star at best as was the Hotel in general,we paid a budget price and suffered for it .It may be o.k for some but if its not better than home why go?especially if your paying more than staying at home......Friends thought it o.k but that was all,The never ending SUN and cloudless sky made up for some dissapointment,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Room Tip: don't go

We stayed at the Royal Salem twice already and I think it will be so much more! Friendly staff, excellent rooms (that even have an LCD television at least those that we have been given), the food varied and excellent. The only objection is the little pool for so many guests. The animation was fun and always with new ideas. We used all inclusive service and really pays off. For us the Royal salem is the king of the hotel in Souse for how much we pay so much we get!

Booked on-line - and as is the way - you get what you pay for. A "run of house room" purchased on line meant we were in the older part of the hotel - and not in the area shown in the official photographs in the brochures etc. The Reception/bar of the hotel has been updated (and is lovely) - the restaurant has not, and the rooms and bathrooms are in need of upgrading, along with tvs that work!, Having said that, it was fairly clean, the staff were attentive (amazing what the company of a 19 year old daughter can achieve!!), and we could eat something most nights. Lunch down at the beach fulfilled our requirements. I found the Animation Team very irritating - but then again, it's not important or neccesary for my holiday experience. The beach was lovely - especially once the breeze got up to cool the 42 degree heat! Fine pale sand, lots of sunbeds - although of course you do need to get there by 7.30am to bag a bed. Overall I'd say the hotel fulfilled our requirements, we weren't in the room very much - but it might have been nice to have a little more refinement. One week is enough at this hotel - and the food would get very repetitive. No tummy upsets - although they clearly recylcled veg into soup, added to pasta etc on the next day. The majority of the guests were Russian and Tunisian with just a few English. I was told the Scandanavians were usually put into the newer part of the hotel? Adequate - but not worth a return visit.

Room Tip: Pay for a higher grade room - otherwise you'll get put in the old part

Just coming back from Sousse trip with 10 days staying at Marhaba Royal Salem. Very nice hotel with several swimming pools ( 3+1 covered), nice beach and wonderful park including many activities (dots, Archy, football, basketball, mini-golf, ping-pong, tennis ...etc) that's the place to be for family with kids. Beach include also many activities like Jet-Ski, Beach volley, Trip of Pirate boat...etc. Kantaoui Port is about 5 Km while Medina is 3 Km only.

One comment however to point out is the behavior of employees with tourist depending on your nationality. As an Algerian i was very disappointed by employees differentiation between European and no European tourist. Too friendly and familiar with European tourist while completely indifferent with others nationalities !!!

Anyway, one of best hotel of Sousse.
