“This hotel was amazing, i will be back!”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

The hotel was excellent, rooms were really clean daily - do not leave sweet stuff around because ant's will attack after a few minutes also after a drink from the bar put the cup in the bin because wasps will attack through the day. It's close to the marina which is the best place to go shopping, take the train that goes down the main road not taxi's!
if the porters when you get to the hotel ask to take your luggage they will want a tip there and then and won't leave you alone till you tip them. The animation team are really nice especially alix. They have a night club which is 18+ but let anyone in if they look older but the nightclub is really fun if you have friends/siblings to go with ( if you like to get drunk, drink before the night club because they charge you alot on alcohol when you can get it free in the bar before 12) i didnt have any problems with this hotel except for in the royal hotel the waiters for the restaurant were rude and arrogant but the owner of the hotel has looked into the problem. i recommend to everyone that they should visit this hotel there are daily entertainment, daily water activities. Also the main shop in the hotel by the small pool called 'banza shop' they are not fixed price so you should try to hassle them to get the price down and they will. i went from 10th august to 24th august 2011
I will surely be visiting this hotel again.

Just back from a 2 week break. Originally booked all inc at Marhaba Salem. 2 adults and a child. But due to renovations we were very happy to be allocated a room within the main Royal Salem Hotel. We had full use of all amenities of the Salem & Royal Salem. Our first impressions were very good when being taken to the room by the porter.
good points....
The room was large and comfortable, individual air conditioning, tv and a nice bathroom with a good powerfull shower. Always hot water. The large bed was more comfortable than my own bed !! Chambermaid was excellent.
The All inclusive was in our opinion excellent. Couldnt fault it. It was our 1st time trying all inclusive and the variety at breakfast , lunch and dinner was fantastic considering they were catering for many different nationalties. The omelettes were great and made to order. As were the fried eggs and pancakes. various cakes , as much tea coffee /hot chocholate as you wish. My son loved the chochlate pancakes. which became a daily afternoon event which he got from one of the many snack places. His record was 5 !!
The alcaholic drinks were fine also. I braught a bottle of vodka at the airport when flying out but ended up bringing it home as there vodka there was fine. There was also lager (which was suprisingly good) brandy, whisky, gin and proper mixers. fanta, diet/coke. sprite etc a variety of cocktails which all seemed to go down well too. We didnt over indulge, but there was never any restriction on the amount you had. Ice in the drinks never gave us the tunisian trots either !!
The beach was great and the pools were even better. We mainly stayed by the large one with the slides.
Bad points.... if there was a bad point and i have struggled to find a fault with this hotel so I suppose im just being picky it would have to be the big pool being salt water. Especialy as the slides go into this pool. to me it seemed more salty than the seawater !!
Things to note.... I heard that elections / voting is going to start up again towards the end of the year, trouble could easily be expected so maybe a little risky going in october November time.
Providing evening entertainment must be very difficult with so many different nationalities. And it was to our liking but it was funny seeing and hearing russians getting up to do karaoke !

But overall a very very enjoyable holiday. and as for the the animation team , they realy do work so hard and they did make us laugh.

Just got back after staying here for 2 weeks. We had booked into marhaba salem but stayed in the royal gardens due to renovation work at marhaba salem. Over all I have no complaints, guaranteed lush weather the rooms were nice clean and comfortable. The food was nice with a lot of choices and desserts were out of this world we had loads lol. The waiters and bar staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pool guy was great after staying there last year he recognised us straight away and gave us our fave spot by the pool lol. The animation team were ace, Alex, Titto, Ameer and Omar were the best always full of beans and great fun, we enjoyed playing bowls with Omar and doing Archery with Ameer and Titto also did aqau arobics with Alex and Titto. Then the did the entertainment in the night time these guys really do work hard, they are the guys that put the fun in the holiday. Definately book to go back there again next year.

We travelled to the Marhaba Royal Salem from the31/7/11 to the14/8/11 with Thomson’s.

Although we booked the Marhaba Salem we where allocated the Marhaba Royal Salem garden rooms.

The rooms where spotless but, on arrival but the patio (sliding) door wouldn’t lock, a drawer front was on the floor, and the air-conditioning wouldn’t work.

We reported the faults and they where rectified very quickly, apart from the air-conditioning that took three day’s and a visit to the rep to get sorted with a room change.

The restaurant was a nightmare with various problems, some of the waiters had obviously got a local arrangement (sounds better than bribe) with people staying there, to reserve tables, this caused a logistical nightmare because if they didn’t show until 9pm the table remained empty, vigorously sometimes rudely guarded by one waiter in particular.

The food was repetitive and to put it bluntly boring, with a tiny portion of meat served by a member of staff, and as much chips, pasta, or pizza as you could eat, our six year old lived on chips, bread, and occasionally chicken.

The afternoon snack bar served even more pizza, and chips, as did the late night one but you could also get more pasta in the evening…..

The deserts consisted of cakes portion controlled by the staff, or as much melon as you could eat.

On several occasions they ran out of plates and on most days’ soup spoons, one day there was spoons but no soup!

The advertised as included “candle lit Tunisian evening” cost 20 dinar a head, this was the first time I have been asked to pay for entertainment at an all inclusive hotel.

The food hygiene was dire, one evening I watched in horror as one person cooking raw Chicken then handled with the same unwashed hands cooked meat!!!!!!

I brought this to the restaurant manager’s attention and he said “it should not happen and he would sort it” if that is happening at the point of serving what is happening behind the scenes, it could also account for the upset stomach that did the rounds..

The beach and pool’s was fine with occasional sea grass deposited on the beach being the only problem, in fact the lifeguards where the only ones not demanding a tip.

The entertainment was good, with the animation team trying really hard, including Tito who remembered our names after only one meeting (very impressed) but the waiter serving drinks would only serve you if you gave him a tip in advance,

We believe in tipping for good service, not as a bribe to receive it.

Overall it has put us off ever going back to Tunisia because this hotel is defiantly not 4 stars, it’s a 3 at best, if you can survive on pizza, pasta, chips and melon, and you don’t mind paying for something you have already paid for then this hotel is for you, but we will never return.

there were six of us myself my husband son aged 15 and my friend and her boys aged 20 and 16 years. I had asked for good views of the sunrise and sea and i got it, even the room i asked for !! room 525 my friends got 522 and 427 all great rooms with superb views. our maid was great and always left flowers and made designs with the towels. towels and linen changed daily, we beleive in tipping the maid and Michael who is the lovely man at the pool where the shop is he comes and gives you your pads for your sun loungers, he kept the six of us our sunloungers every day near the stage, we had three parasols and tables etc, everyone one was so nice and even although it was Ramadan they coped very well and it was only towards the end of the day they started to tire. food was good especially breakfast someone making fresh omelettes another pancakes and another fresh donuts, too many eggs though, i had an upset stomach for a few days but have experiences that worldwide. we spent the full two weeks at the one pool as we liked it there. the animation team worked really hard and if you are looking for something more then go to a five star, we thoroughly enjoyed it. dont put on your roaming as my bil for the first week was £202 before I got cut off. use the taxi phone in the shop outside the hotel on the right, and walk up to the palm centre also for a great selection of gifts which are better than going to sousse or PEK they are dearer there. the shop on the right if you go inside and buy a coke you will get free wifi cheap at the price as the hotel internet never works the rep managed to get our money back for us. it was my sons birthday whilst we were there and the staff had the tablet set out with lots of flowers and brought him a birthday cake and sang happy birthday. I got a lovely henna tatoo done the arabic peace dove which i had taken with me in a picture and the guy redone it beofe i left i gave him some money for redoing it. although he said just give him something if i wanted too, our kids loved the indoor pool and all the stuff going on at the beach, but beware dont buy cigarettes down there. Four of us went to Farmers for a meal three steaks and a huge burger baked potatoes, etc and a couple of drinks and it was just over 50 quid, fillet steak three huge pieces on a skewer i could only eat two and my husband had a very large ribeye, the saloon bar is a rip off for cocktails and watch in PEK as we walked out of a bar who stated it was alcoholic cocktails and it wasnt we never paid !!!, met some lovely people a couple who were on their honeymoon who said the safari two day trip they stayed in a tent and said it was great. I went to the medina in sousse with my son and managed to get a ring for a quarter of what they asked if you cant haggle dont go !! negative sides, kids including ours went in the pool at midnight, I personally dont think that should be allowed.. the new snack bar at the beach is great lovely wind there at lunchtime, but just wished it was open in the evening to sit and chill with a drink. toilets at the pool where the stage is werent very nice by the evening but I blame the holidaymakers for that !!! you flush your own at home dont you ? all in all great holiday but will return again but not at this time of year far too hot for walking so next year a wee bit earlier for us, the six of us enjoyed it immensely. sorry not downloaded the pics yet but it is just as it looks in brochure, and where we were in the Marhaba Royal Salem we heard no noise from building work and the pool we used the work was going on behind it

You can't knock the hotel, it's cleanliness or it's staff at this place....the food however is something I never want to experience again! I ate watermelon and chips the last 5 days of our 2 week holiday as if I ate anything else I was sat on the loo for the whole of the following day! If you don't like eggs your pretty stuck!
However, the pools are lovely, and the pool attendant is really helpful...you aren't there for more than 2 minutes before he's brought you a cushion for your sunlounger, and we really didn't have that much bother with finding a sunbed (although we are generally up by half 8 anyway, so if you tend to sleep in then maybe you will struggle!)
Port el Kantoui is lovely....you get pestered a lot but our favourite line for our holiday was "I bought something from you the other day" and they back off! The Medina in Sousse is scary stuff though....I'd recommend a tour guide or going down there in a large group...i was manhandled on several occasions down there!
We finally found Tunisia's version of McDonalds on our second to last day (I was desperate for something other than watermelon!)...there called "Farmers Burgers" and to be fair are set up like a McDonalds but serve really good quality food for what you pay for.
Try the jetskiing and quadbiking...absolutely loved it!
Don't go anywhere near the beauty therapist (who does nails etc) as she ripped my hands to shreds when I had some Gel tips done....and they lasted about 3 days and aren't that cheap!
I'd go again, but would go self catering....problem is I'm not sure self catering is even an option!
