“Great pools and beach, average rooms but nice views of the sea”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

Stayed here with my hub in April 2013. Had a few days of cold weather which was annoying. Stayed here 4 or 5 nights had a room bang dot in the middle of the hotel 6th floor I think with amazing views of the pool and beach and sea, much like in the pictures.

Hotel lobby and entrance was grand and nice. Food was plentiful and lots of variety, being a muslim country the food was halal so great for us. We were half board so paid for soft drinks which were okay and water also couple of quid. Good stuff to eat, nice desserts and ice cream.

Sousse itself is a historical city, went to the madina, walked around, prayed in the old mosque, walked around the ribat, there were other things to do, but couldnt be bothered. Did a spot of shopping fairly cheap. Went by metro train (i think) as there are 2 train stations, one day went to Monastir, well worth a visit, nice things to see, short walk from station takes 45 mins to get there costs £3-4 return pp. One day went to El Djem the old roman ampitheatre, took about 1 hour and 15, well worth it, went morning at 8.30 and took the 12.30 or 12.45 train back, think trains are limited but cheapest way to do it again it cost £4-5 pp return. Had to change at a station on the way Kala Sagira I think and literally walk across the platform down the tunnel over to the other side for another train. Did same on way back. Got back safely without any issues. You can strike deals with taxi drivers to take you there too, dont know how much it is probably £30-50? Taxis outrside the hotel are a rip off, get one further down the street. Taxis should be metered although they almost always hide this, make sure you dont pay more than couple quid if going to the madina. I suppose in nice weather walking along the promenade would be nice. We took the noddy train from town centre to Port El Kantaoi which was a nice new marina area with shops. Was freezing cold that day. If you want hot weather go after May, end April half the days there we were wrapped up in jackets. Spent last 2 days in Yasmine Hammamet, thank god the weather was hot then. Also took mainline train there, easy to get to takes hour and way much cheaper than taxi.. Can also take train to Tunis city although we didnt. Overall good place to visit.

Room Tip: Ask for sea views on high floor.

Arrived back yesterday after a weeks stay here. I don't really know where to start....
On landing in Tunisia we had to pass our cases through the window of a beaten up old shuttle bus that was to drive us to our hotel. The driving standards in Tunisia are scary!

On arrival at the hotel, we thought we hit the jackpot with its marble lobby and friendly staff that greeted us. We made our way to the room. The corridors are pretty much in darkness although there are sensor lights that go on but not until you are right on top of them. The hotel room was standard - nothing to get excited about. However, we paid extra for a sea view which was definitely worth it - the street view is not a picture you would want to wake up to every morning!

The food - not great! Didn't really taste of anything! The breakfast was probably the best meals available. There is no concept of queues in the dining room - it is literally every man for himself! And if you get knocked - don't expect an apology! During dinner you have a table allocated to you which you arrange on your first sitting. We was lucky enough to get the best waiter there - a gentleman called Mohammed (employee number 444). He was attentive and friendly and
always seemed pleased to see us - and that was before a tip!! He puts a smile on your face just by looking at him.

The entertainment - what entertainment!! There is an on site nightclub open from 11pm until 2am. We turned up there at 11 and was told that it started at 11.30, at 11.30 we was still the only 4 sitting there - the DJ finally turned up, put some lights and music on and then kept disappearing! We finally left when other guests walked in, took a look around and then walked out again! We asked staff about anywhere we could go as by this time the bar was closed which meant we couldn't get a drink unless we wanted to pay for it which wasn't really the point seeing as we went all inclusive! We was advised that the nightclub gets busy at 1am - probably as everyone is dying for a drink!

The pool/beach - never had any problems getting a spot and sun beds at any time of the day. Any snacks that you may fancy throughout the day - outside of breakfast, lunch and dinner - then you will need to pay for it.

The spa - spent a few times in here as it is very cheap - can't complain about any of my massages they was very good. Well worth a visit.Had a manicure and pedicure on my last day - lets just say I redid my nails when I arrived home the next day!

We went on the 3 hour pirate ship trip and lets just say that it's a whole 3 hours of my life I am never getting back! However, I would recommend the quad biking - highlight of the holiday for me.

The majority of the staff at the hotel where very nice and helpful but there are a few rude ones.

The locals will be on you as soon as you step foot outside of the hotel so be prepared to say no. We was also advised by hotel staff to cover your wrist band when leaving the hotel.

All in all a disappointing experience although this was not just down to the hotel. Others that we spoke to at the airport on the way home was also not impressed. I personally would not recommend Tunisia to anyone and am happy to be back in cold, rainy England!!!

We have just returned from a great week's holiday at Riadh Palms. The value for money here is exceptional- get a sea view room and the sight of the pool and beach is enough to warrant the price! Entertainment was brilliant, the guys really make the effort to chat and joke with the guests and get everyone involved. There are pool games throughout the day but you are in no way harrassed to join in, although water gym is really fun, even to watch! At night there are various shows going on, or there is live music most nights on the terrace. The terrace area is great for drinks and chats of an evening- the red wine is surprisingly good, we should know, we drank enough of it!! The cocktails weren't to our taste though apart from the sangria :) The food was varied and interesting, if you didn't fancy trying local food there was always something else to have like pizza etc. Breakfast was especially good, with fried eggs, omlettes and pancakes all being cooked fresh in front of you. We loved being able to grab lunch at the pool bar overlooking the beach! Service across the whole hotel was brilliant- our waiter Makrem really looked after us in the restaurant and the waiters in the bar were also very attentive, they work incredibly hard to keep everyone topped up with drinks! Our room was spacious and lovely, very clean as the cleaners came every single day. The pool was brilliant, lots of games going on at one end but if you wanted a quieter swim, the shallower part was perfect. Yes if you want a specific place by the pool/beach then you need to get up early (before 7am) to put a towel down, but if you're not fussy where you sit, there are always always enough sunbeds to go around, whatever time of day. Beach was gorgeous, water nice and shallow so you could have a nice walk out to the deep part to cool down! The waves were a little loud though ;) The spa was incredible value for money- we opted for a 2 day course consisting of a total of 8 treatments including a scrub, hydrotherapy massage and full body massage with facial mask, all for 120 dinah (£48). Location was good enough for us- we didn't venture out much but it seemed as if a lot was going on and you could get to El Kantoui etc quite easily. We just had a walk along the beach towards the harbour, and one night we went to The Saloon- a steakhouse about 5 mins walk as you turn right out of the hotel, the steak was gorgeous! Seen a few comments about wifi on here- we found it worked great most days and when it didn't we didn't care because we were on holiday and surely everyone should be outside enjoying the sun rather than complaining about not getting online...

Ok so there were a couple of mishaps- we booked into the Italian a la carte restaurant and were quite disappointed with the food- soggy asparagus and plain pasta. However could not fault the service (or the wine!) And can't comment on the other a la cartes (there is also an indian and a Tunisian). Secondly, we did find the ladies on reception/change/conceirge a little rude- we had no towels in our room one day and had to wait an hour for them to arrive, she also refused to change a 5dinah coin into 1s even though it was for staff tips, and they also charged us 3 dinah to call our transfer company before departure, which I believe should be part of hotel services. However, none of this stopped us from having a brilliant holiday at Ridah Palms. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel, we're just gutted we had to come home!

The hotel is lovely with great facilities. The pool is large with many different sections and so many people can be swimming there and it doesn't feel too busy. Nice seating areas inside and outside. Lots of sunbeds available but you need to get down there early as they get reserved quickly. The garden area was particularly fabulous as it has a gorgeous view out over the sea.
The rooms were basic but clean. Without doubt pay the extra and go for the sea view- it was incredible. Also I think you'd be disappointed with the city view- it's all hotels and casinos to be seen. Only two lifts at each end of the hotel so be prepared to wait a bit (or use the stairs!)
Food was good with a variety of choices which would suit most westerners. There are traditional choices which are worth a try! The pizza station was a favourite! I would avoid some of the fish- my dad ate the roll mops and then was unwell. I tried to be sensible with my choices and so avoided sea food. Snacks etc and drinks were great. The local wine isn't the best but after a few you don't mind!
The beach is great and we went down from our sunbeds on the hotel suit. Expect to be hassled a little for pirate ship trips etc but they are friendly enough if you politely decline.
The main downside was the location- there isn't much to do. We went for a week so it was fine, but I think two weeks would get boring. The medina in Sousse was fabulous as was Port El Kantoui (we went at night) but expect to be hassled in both & keep belongings close.
I would recommend this for the money- if you are expecting 5* it isn't for you. We paid £550 each in the summer holidays for all inclusive and so I think it was great value for money. If you like things to see it also might not be for you.

We paid around £350 each for flights, baggage, transfers and hotel all inclusive (flying from Glasgow). We weren't expecting much but were very pleasantly surprised! The room was clean and everything worked fine. The view was spectacular (we had paid an extra £10 each for sea view, well worth it!) The food was varied and there was plenty of it, bear in mind that the price paid is very low.

Most staff are very pleasant and special mention to Jacqui and the wee man who were on the go from around 8am until 2am each day entertaining guests.

If you are expecting Tunisian 4 star to be on the same level as UK 4 star then you will be disappointed but if you keep an open mind with regards to the price that you have paid then you should be just as happy as we were.

A few quick tips:
*The spa in the hotel was great and we had 3 hours and 4 treatments for around £35.00.
* Do not wander past the fence on the beach, a beach seller tried to rob me! They will not come in past the boundary fence though.
*The only time i recommend anyone to pass the fence is to try out the jet-skiing and paragliding just up the beach, very cheap and good fun.
*It is impossible to get cider or decent menthol cigarettes in Sousse. If you like these (like I do!) then either take your own or go without. Do not buy what they call menthol cigarettes, they are absolutely awful. Cider is unheard of.
*Wi-fi is available but it's hit or miss, far too many people trying to use it for the capability of the router.

I would definitely return but with a male or mixed group, not as two females.

If you have never been to Tunisia before then definitely research it, especially if you are an all female group.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view.
