“LUXUS RESIDENCE IN BEACH RESORT”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Since the opening of this structure, more than 2 years ago, I tried to stay in this hotel because of the variety of services offered. Compared to the standards of this town, prices are extremely high but also the level of performance an service given is actually over the standard. Even if, according to my personal opinion, relation price/service is not exactly very convenient. For what's concerning comfortability, aspects, architectures and room, absolutely TOP! Every single corner of every reachable space is clean and shining. Different restaurants are available, for international, or local or also exotic cuisine. The nearby beach is very nice. Actually it is more a "resort" rather than an hotel. Few remarks: If you drive your car, there is no direct connection or passage between the underground garage and the hotel. The Wifi in the room is rather medium-poor quality, in the public areas it is definitely poor. And furthermore, though the WiFi-fee is quite expensive (this service is normally free almost anywhere else), in case You connect with more devices you pay the fee as many times as the number of different devices. Some rooms placed on the ground-floor needs walking through staircases: few steps actually, but if you have bulky baggages or if you only have walking difficoulties, this could be a problem.

Staying at Marhaba Beach nearby and we decided to go to the Tapas Restaurant at Movenpick for a treat. Unfortunately, there were several errors made with our meal. We specifically asked for all the dishes to come out together to share between the five of us. However, the dishes all came out separately, we then found out that they had run out of chirizzio, which is one of the main ingredient of tapas in my mind. We were then told they had run out of the only potato dish on the menu so they substituted it with fries, so we ordered 1 portion, but 2 came out. We then said we didn't want any more bread, but another bread came out. I then asked the waiter where our tortilla wraps were, he said they had also run out of them, so I asked the head waiter as this had not been mentioned. He then said there was not a problem and the tortilla would be coming soon. The food was then finished and a single tortilla came out, when we had ordered 2 portions. However, the tortilla was plain and not as written on the menu as no chirizzio again. Anyway, what I will say is that when I raised these issues with the head waiter, they were exceedingly attentive and took a discount from the bill. They also went and got the Food & Beverage Manager who personally apologised and invited us back for lunch the next day, although we didn't have time as our last day. So the message here is that it wasn't perfect, but it is nice when this is acknowledged and attempted to put right.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to say if something isn't right, if I pay for 5*, I except it to be near per...

This was our 3rd stay at a Movenpick hotel, having also stayed at 2 Movenpick hotels in Jordan in 2010 that were incredible.
The Movenpick hotel in Sousse did not let down the reputation of the Swiss hotel chain. It was fantastic. The facilities and the rooms were great, the food excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Would like to mention the Duty Manager, Mr. Mahmoud, who was very attentive.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the ocean and swimming pool

I spent one week in this superb hotel and took a 4 day cure in the Marine Spa.
I had a superior room with sea view, king size bed and big cupboard with safety box and 4 drawers. Also good space for suitcase and 1 drawer under it.
In the bathroom were 2 bathrobes, hair dryer and enough of space for cosmetics.
Beginning from this spring, all rooms have a kettle, so you do not need to bring your own, but if you have a favorite tea or coffee, you may bring it with you. In addition to a table and two chairs, there was a birds nest in the balcony. An amazing number of TV channels.
Very practical and functional room, only the lightning was not to my taste, and the bathroom magnifying mirror was set much too low. If there is a crying baby in the next room, you may hear it. If your room is in third floor, there are some stairs down and up. The staff is very friendly end service minded.

Hotel organizes many daily activities on the lawn or in the Fitness center (separate building), you find the list every morning near the Tapeo restaurant. Own program for the children. The indoor swimming pool in spa is open for residents over 16 years from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 4:00 to 6:00. Other times are reserved for the customers of Marine Spa. In case you go to Spa for pool and treatments, take two different swimming suits, a two-piece is best for the treatments. I wanted to have some advance information concerning the Spa, but had lot of difficulties to find the e-mail address of the hotel, it is not given on the hotel web page, finally I found it, but couldn't find it again after my trip. From some countries you can call toll-free.

Because of the many activities and services, you can stay in the hotel all the time, if you want. In the evening, the dress code is smart casual. If you take your dinners in the main restaurant (Mosaique), you have your "own" table every evening, but this does not apply for the breakfast, in the morning you can sit in the first free table. This isn't always clear to everybody, the second morning I met a very angry man yelling to me that I was sitting in "his" table.
The coffee is brought to the table in a thermos, if you want to have tea, you go to get it yourself, and choose between the different teas available.

If you wish to see more, you can make a short walk to Medina, or you can take a long beach-walk to Port el Kantaoui (10 km). There are no private beaches on the road, but you may need to go in water in one place.
There is nothing to be afraid of and you do not need to wear a scarf. You may meet some smiling young men who tell you that they work in the bar of your hotel and want to take you to the shops. I noticed, that when I avoided eye-contact with them, I could walk in peace.
There has been less tourist this year, and therefore all open shops, restaurants and hotels are eager to sell or serve you something.

If you don't want to go far, there is a two story building with a Shopping Center and a nice cafe on the other side of the street , and some restaurants nearby. I had a very good fish with saffron sauce in one of them. In the Shopping center there are shops with indicated prices, you may check them before you start to bargain in the Medina or in the shops without prices. There is a Super market on the left from the hotel, on the same side of the street, and an other if you turn to right. Crossing the street may take time, there are many cars but very few traffic lights.

We came on half board ,which we would not normally do but the fact that there is not much else around we were pleased we did.The main buffet was fine we only ate there once as we could go to the tapas and sushi restaurants in the evening included in half board. We did go to breakfast a couple of mornings which is repetitive and the staff seem lazy and not that fussed to replenish any of the dishes.Such a shame as all the other staff are great ,The pool area is just fantastic .Comfy sunbeds and great pools including a lovely warm salt water one. Beach is also lovely ...it's funny to see that we were protected by The Men In Black ...suited and booted security guys stopping anyone coming onto our beach area! The rooms are nice ,clean and fabulous view if you have a sea and pool view.A very modern hotel and this time of year almost empty, so no sun bed hustle.
The Spa is massive and superb with reasonable prices, well worth a visit.

I travelled on business and found the hotel to very comfortable, although unable to use all the amenities during my short stay, I would consider staying here for vacation. The beach and pools look great. The rooms were comfortable and the view from mine was excellent. Only downside was the very slow service in the lobby and bar which seems to be a Tunisian thing in general. Oh and breakfast was good.
