“Magical!”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

My Husband and I have just returned from a truly AMAZING week at the Movenpick, Sousse. We simply cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel, so where do we start?
First of all the hotel exterior and interior is absolutely stunning-it really is the best looking hotel in Sousse. Our flight was delayed so we did not arrive at the hotel until gone 3am but we were greeted by pleasant staff who were more than happy to help us.
Our room was on the 3rd floor (3073) with a sea view-just beautiful. It was a little noisy in the evenings as we overlooked the hotel next-door but as other reviewers have commented the music stopped no later than 11pm and we hardly spent any time in our room so it really was not a problem for us. As it was our Honeymoon the hotel had laid out some flowers and a towel in the shape of a heart on our bed and had provided us with a scrummy dessert.
Our room was always kept clean, the room attendants worked so hard; the executive housekeeper Moufida was wonderful, such a lovely lady she was always smiling.
The pools are lovely; there are 3 to choose from. The staff who work outside are really friendly and are on hand for anything you need. Kamal who works at the bar was truly amazing. He works tirelessly (as do all of the staff at the hotel) and he is always smiling!
The beach was beautiful; gorgeous fine sand and plenty of sun beds and parasols. Deroiche was a lovely young man who was always willing to help.
We ate in the Mosaique restaurant frequently and the food and service was excellent Farahat and Ahmed (a true gentleman) were wonderful staff members; a credit to the hotel. For lunch we sometimes ate in the beach bar which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also had dinner in Levante Grill and the Spanish restaurant. We preferred Levante which was stunning, a beautiful location on the beach.
The mood in the evenings was very relaxed yet formal. No loud music just a piano player and singer in the background in the lobby.
The hotel security was fantastic. You had 2 officers at the front of the hotel and at least 1 on the beach so you never felt hassled. One security guy at the front of the hotel; Sofien was a star. He helped us on several occasions find our way to local shops or guided us on the restaurants in the hotel.
We did not use the Spa so cannot really comment on it but it looked beautiful.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a relaxing break in a stunning hotel. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and work so hard. We did tip regularly (approx 1-2 dinar), not because we felt we had to but because the service we received was so good.
We are already looking forward to coming back and are planning our next trip!

I am always in Sousse, and every hotel there with 4* or 5* is good, but Movenpick is something special and different for sure. If you choose Movenpick, certainly, you will not make a mistake.
Movenpick is in the best location in Sousse, in centre, if you want to go to Medina by walk, thats about 20 min, the best night clubs like Banana's, Saloon, BonaParte... are in circle of 5 min, also by walk, newer part of Sousse, looking from hotel, is on the other side of the Medina, if you want to go to Port El Kantaoui, take taxi and pay 7 td, no more...
Movenpick is amazing hotel with beautiful recepcion, balconies with wonderful view, swimming pools with jacuzzis, great beach with so, so comfortable sunbeds. The staff is very friendly and smiling...
So, if you choose Movenpick, be sure that its best decision !

We booked this hotel after a lot of deliberation for a two week holiday - half board basis. A bit apprehensive due to the very mixed reviews.
Hotel - Set in a great location. Taxi to the Sousse medina is 5TD. The entrance is very grand and cool, a welcome respite from the intense heat. Lots of seating. Pool areas and garden are magnificent - clean and very well kempt. Good choice of bars - inside or out. Our favourite was First - lovely view and very good service.
Evening entertainment - a singer accompanied by a singer every evening. Very good acoustic! - the weather was warm enough to sit outside, no entertainment there.
The room - we were very lucky to have a seaview room. Great size, quite and very clean and comfortable. The bed was big and comfortable. The bathroom - spacious and modern. The towels were a bit on the well worn side.Nice sized balcony. Cleaned daily, some days better than others and there wasn't consistancy regarding water/soap/shampoo - some days none other days no problem.
Restaurants - The Mosaique is the main restaurant - buffet style. We found the food choice to be excellent - there was a choice of traditional fare/fish/meat/salad/pizza/vegtables/rice/ fish bread/cheese/ dessert etc at every main course. Really well supervised - the head chef and sou chef were there most of the time which was very reassuring. Anything we requested was gotten for us with a smile. I do have to say the chefs both went around the tables to talk to the guests - a sincere thank you to Kamel and the chef, we really enjoyed our meals.
Breakfast - again we thought there was a great choice. In both cases waiter service depends on the area you are seated. Some waiters are exceptional - we were lucky. Others were not as observant. There was the occasional backround noise of crokery breaking - something to improve. Trollies may be helpful. The staff who showed us to our tables were very plesant. There were difficulties sometimes as tables may not be set/ allocation difficulties. It usually got sorted out but sometimes patience is required.
There was absolutely no problem booking into the other restaurants on offer - they may not be available the day you ring but usually within 2 days. The food was really good in them both (we didn't go to the Sushi one) but we preferred the Mosaique! Great belly dancing as well!
Pool side service - We were there at the end of September, beginning of October. There were plenty of loungers/parasols. The pool side staff were very helpful setting you up! Waiter service was very good. There is a waiter called Kamel - he wears a straw hat. He is fantastic - very observant/diligent and circulates regularly. We didn't tip until the end - but they deserved every cent. Some of the loungers may have needed new cushions but they were excellent overall. The towels - no problem at all, in plentiful supply.
Half board versus All inclusive - I agonised over this issue due to difficulty in getting specific information from the travel agent and the very mixed feedback on trip advisor. We went half board in the end and it worked very well for us. Drinks are not that expensive - a bottle of local beer - Celtia is 5.50TD, large water is about 3 TD, a bottle of red wine - mid price one (Jour et Nuit - Cabernet Sauvingnon) 35TD(or there abouts). Served with glasses.AI guests get there drinks in the poolbar in plastic glasses. First bar was also not included in the AI package to my knowledge.
The manager was very visible, so if there was a problem no doubt it would be sorted out! We were contacted by customer relations as well to ensure we were alright and the concierge service was great.
We didn't try the spa so can't comment.
All in all we were very happy - we were very well looked after and is a very relaxing place to be.I would recommend it if you want to get away from it all and have a truly relaxing break. The question of 5 stars - probably a European 4ish, but do you know what it comes to the point it really doesn't matter. The odd mishap shouldn't spoil an overall great experience.

Room Tip: It is really worth it to push the boat out and get a sea view room if possible. There is a noisy dis...

We were initially hesitant about booking this hotel as we wanted something more closer to Sousse town centre and due to some of the reviews on this site. But we had a very enjoyable stay here and would recommend it.

We booked a superior double room directly with the hotel, for bed and breakfast only. The room was a decent size and with standard fixtures and fittings. Both the room itself and the hotel were extremely clean with fresh towels delivered daily. The standard and facilities were as expected of a large, international hotel chain.

We found the staff to be friendly, especially as we tipped at every opportunity, but not particularly efficient, but this seemed more to be down to the local culture than the hotel, as we found service to be leisurely elsewhere too.

The criticisms I would make are
- for 2 out of 3 days we went to the pool they had run out of towels, and the fact that we saw many people take their pool/beach towels back to the room suggests that this was not unusual.
- for a reasonably new hotel there did seem to be a general lack of maintenance. The lock on our balcony was unreliable (a problem as the air conditioning would not work with the door unlocked), and many of the sun loungers and parasols were in a poor state.

We did not eat in the hotel in the evening, but found the beach bar and tapas bar fine for lunch.

ı have been there for a business trip. I have stayed there before( each time they loose the past records) it is a fantastic hotel and beach. We had a dinner in one of their fancy restaurants of nouvelle cusine.high price, big plate , very small food. So if you want to eat only main course you better order everything min double portion.
The rooms are nice and clean, big and with a nice balcony with sea wiew. Breakfast open buffet again very poor, at 9 am. So you better have to be there very early if you want to eat better. I was there only for business trip, so for me the important was the room and sleep one night. We if you are there for a week of vacation with your family, you better find a restaurant nearby and a nice cafeteria for breakfast out of the hotel.

My husband and I have returned from a lovely relaxing holiday, first time in Tunisia. We booked this hotel, all inclusive for 1 week for a much needed relaxing break and thats exactly what is was. I wouldnt recommend taking children as their isnt much to do for them, and I agree there is nothing to do in the evening, but thats what we expected so we werent disappointed. Overall we enjoyed our stay and couldnt fault the rooms, staff, beach or gym. We didnt use the pool or spa so cant comment on that. The waiter service was fine, you just had to catch their eye and they were straight over, we did tip towards the end of the holiday but only because we were pleased with the service, not because we wanted them to wait on us hand and foot. The only down side I would say was the food. It was cold or at best slighly warm, evening meal service 6.30 - 8pm was a nightmare no service for drinks, tables not set up etc it was very busy - we were not impressed so decided we would just wait till 9pm for second sitting which was much more civilased - food still cold though. However I couldnt fault the grill and tapas restaurants and wish we had tried to book earlier for the sushi, the beach bar was great for lunch and fternoon tea. Overall we had a good time and it was what we expected. Dont know if I would go back, certainly not with my children, not because of the hotel though, just dont know if Tunisia is for me.

We were not supposed to be going to this hotel but as usual Thomas Cook had overbooked the hotel that we booked and we ended up here. Lovely beach and staff but there it ends.
Looks very grand from outside - clean and comfortable but not the five star it makes out to be.
We have been to better three star ones - only go here if you like cold or tepid food, nothing to do of a night time unless you like listening to someone plonking on a piano.
You can get a taxi to local amenities ie local marina which is brilliant with loads of shops, coloured fountains..The haggling is brilliant and fun.
We also booked a trip out but u guessed it they never turned up = thank you Thomas Cook for the most unforgettable holiday!!!!!!!
As for the hotel would not give it the 5 stars it think it is.

Room Tip: ask for one that is not next to a family - all walls are very thin
