Montaza is a wlled refuge from the rest of Alexandria that used to be the King's private retreat. The gardens and grounds are extensive, but in addition to this there are restaurants, hotels, reception halls and even a section that is private and has bungalows surrounding a private beach.
Day or night, this is a great place to visit. However, you should arrange for a cab or other vehicle transportation, as this is a big place and not suited for a simple stroll without transportation arrangements.
My last visit was a few days ago, but I've been here innumerable times for wedding receptions, parties or just to hang out. When visiting here, you can easily forget the bustle of Alexandria is just on the other side of the walls, and I definitely recommend checking it out.

And yes, there is a fee for entry unless you're coming for a scheduled event or as a guest to one of the facilities or guest's bungalows.

We got a cab (a very scary ride!) here and arranged for the driver to wait,nThey take us back. He charged us 50.00 per hour from the Sofitel hotel. The gardens are very nice and there were many families relaxing and having picnics on this Friday afternoon. There is a lot of litter which is a shame. You can see King Farouk's Palace which is unusual and very beautiful. There is a small cafe and a shop selling ice cream and snacks. We really enjoyed the gardens but I'd love to see them in summer when I assume there are more flowers.

A very nice and beatiful garden, a chance to rest a while from the busy city. Nice walk to the harbour with a view to the old royal castles.

Beautiful gardens, paths. wish the palace were open for tours, but I understand it's all government business in there. My husband said the condition of the men's room was acceptable. Not busy the day we visited. A respite from the crazy traffic of Alexandria! DO NOT try to drive yourself- get a cab! just a small entrance fee at the main gate
