excellent hospitality and ambiance.

The location and classic architect were wonderful .

There was a terrible smell in the room, troubles with the AC.
apart from the wonderful breakfast ; cuisine was very poor of no standard nor vegetarian alternatives.

We only had one night in Alexandria and our stay at the Windsor Palace was arranged by our excellent guides, Egypt Culture Tours. The hotel is grand and airy and has a great personality, but if you're a stickler for just-so modernisms, you'd probably just as well skip it. Wonderful location for walking the shore between the library and the lighthouse. Surrounded by markets and shops and street life, but the room had a balcony and offered wonderful fresh sea air. The decor was worn but stylish in its own way. The hotel restaurant was spectacular. Upstairs, great view, great food & wine - very pleasant way to spend the evening hours. Recommended for a short stay.

The Windsor Palace has a great location in Alexandria if you're there to tour the ancient sites. Although it faces the sea, it does not have beach access, the nerarest beach is about a half mile away. The hotel has seen better days, but it is still an interesting place to stay if you want to save some money. The restaurant on top has average food, but a great view of the Med.

We booked the hotel one day before, and i should say it was a rather random choice, however we were very satisfied with everything. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious, service is excellent in the hotel, restaurant and concierge, and the top feature is the great view of the Harbor from the terrace on the top floor where you can have a good breakfast (included in the price), drinks in the afternoon or dinner at night. The menu of the restaurant is great, as it includes local fish and mezzes.

We loved it, beautiful building and lobby. Huge room, quiet, clean and everything worked!! Our room had bad views but the restaurant which has good food has great views. Great location across the road from the beach.

A staff member helped us get a tour around the city which was great.

But like everywhere we stayed at in Egypt the building could do with a paint job and a few repairs to bring it back to its former glamour.

My partner and I arrived in Alexandria after quite an exhausting trip down the Nile Valley. Hot, busy, lots to see an do (enjoyable though!) What a delight to walk into the marble lined lobby of this grand old hotel.

We lucked out and were given one of the good rooms, top floor, centre of the building. We opened the old floor to ceiling shutters and a super view from one end of Alex to the other welcomed us - not to mention a beautiful cool sea breeze - so welcome after the heat and dust of Cairo especially.

The room was a decent size, nice balcony, large - though odd shaped bathroom. A nice sofa, good sized TV and everything you'd expect of a hotel in this category. There was a lock on the mini bar, which is par for the course in many Egyptian hotels. The room was very comfortable and certainly clean enough.

The real charm of this property is the history that oozes from the walls. (Next door to our room was the Omar Shariff suite!) In the centre of the hotel is one of the hotels most celebrated features - the old wrought iron lift/elevator. Hey, it was cramped in there with luggage and more than a couple of people, but what a treat to ride in a piece of history like that - sort of like going for a ride in a Model T Ford!

Surrounding the lift was a sweeping staircase and if you are on the first or second floor, it would make more sense to take the stairs if in a hurry.

The location of th Windsor can't be beaten in all of Alex in my opinion. (Except perhaps by The Cecil two blocks along the waterfront. (Cecil is swish - run by Sofitel and you pay the premium to stay there over the Windsor). Within three to four blocks either side of the Windsor, you can find plenty of old world cafes, an internet cafe, shops, convenience stores and even a place to buy cold beer over the counter - a rarity in Egypt.

The cream on the cake at the Windsor is the top floor dining room, with a good selection of options for breakfast. Frankly, nothing to get too excited about, but good, hearty breakfasts, your standard omelette bar, average coffee, fruits, toasts, pastries. The view - wow - knock your socks off. Almost a 270 degree sweep of the harbour, with the Fort, way out on the point, centre stage. Awesome stuff.

We really enjoyed out stay at the Windsor and I would highly recommend it. It's a treat if you like a touch of colonial style history. In saying that, it's not the most slick, polished hotel. Hotel reception and staff were OK - you know, 'just doing their job' approach to it all. If you prefer 5-star polish, international standards, and that feeling you get when you are in a large 'international chain hotel' - then look elsewhere.

Some of the other reviews here make me scratch my head and wonder, as some of the negative comments were not apparent at all. That said, this is Egypt, things can and do change.

We spent a lovely 2 nights at the Windsor. Located seaside, this big French-colonial building was quite charming. The rooms had high ceilings, with large doors and spacious bathroom. The included breakfast was amazing: so much food and on the top of the hotel , offering great views of the sea. It was near lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants. The internet was not great in our experience.
