last week I had the opportunity to visit,my main concern was the bookshop,I was looking for anything on Alexandria its self,I went down stairs to the other exhibits, very nice indeed, plus the main library, but the book shop its self was a pleasant addition to my quest,I found several books on Alexandria,Napoleon , Cavafy ,plus to my great delight maps of this city, all of this at good price. My advice is to go during the working week as it gets packed with locals and turo's.very nice, good coffee shop to attend to all your needs.

It is especially treasure to see people still holding a book not handphone. We must preserve this good habit. This library is big and have many floors. But as a tourist, we still need to purchase a ticket to go in and have a look. Probably is a contribution to their maintenance funds. Architecture design inside and outside the library also very nice. Must also check out their e-library deck. Very interesting to see the mummy in each and every layer which enlarged function!

An exceptional place that is considered one of the must see attractions in Egypt. I visited it many times with all my guests coming to visit Alexandria.

Naturally I do not know what the old library looked like but this new one has plenty of read/work space, beautiful exhibits including rare Byzantine items. Allow half a day.
Close by is Pompeii Obelisk. A must visit site. Have more time? Wadi Natrum.
Egypt overall is a very safe these days.
