Owner description: Located near the site of the ancient library of Alexandria, this modern version is an eleven-story, cylindrical-shaped building that houses more than eight million books. A re-imagining of Alexandria's ancient Great Library, this gorgeously designed cultural center contains a host of museums as well as one of the modern world's most ambitious libraries. Its architecture - a giant sun disk - presides over the waterfront Corniche, while inside, a huge reading room can hold eight million volumes. Below themain library, visitors can explore a range of beautifully curated exhibitions. TheManuscript Museum with its magnificent collection of ancient texts and scrolls and the Antiquities Museum with its Graeco-Roman antiquities and statuary found during underwater exploration in the harbor are the two prime attractions. But there are also rotating art exhibitions, a permanent Egyptian folk art collection, and a Science Museum and Planetarium that are aimed squarely at children.

After 4 visit in Alex I had succed in visiting Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It's big... impressive. You must take ticket in separeted location, leave bags and after... Put yourself in an ocean of books. Every country gave books in mother language so I can tell without doubts I never see so many books in different language in my life!! Also museum inside is very interesting

It is a fantastic place. Don't bother with a tour. It is better to take your time and explore. The architecture, art work and the museum are very impressive.

It's impressive in the volume of the main room, probably I expected something different that's why I found the biblioteque not really interesting. I don't recommend as there are some other more interesting places around.

Well we went for the full ticket of LE45 each or £4.50 English. They allow you to take photos in the main areas.
The design is stunning and the lighting helps a lot. We spent around 2-3 hours going around the place. Our ticket allowed us into the rare book area where we saw part of a scroll from the first Alex library. One of the oldest koran's
The design is well worth the money

The new bibliotheca is a stunning example of civic architecture that works very well! It has various exhibitions, some free and some for a small charge. The Antiquities room is well worth a visit as is the Sadat museum. There are art galleries, sculptures and other exhibitions. If you love interesting architecture this is the place for you - but take the short guided tour first.
