“Great old building, oldish interior and rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

The hotel is located on one of the best spots in Alex.
Unfortunately it is too noise on the seaside of the hotel due to the traffic.
The elevator is so old-fashioned and so great.
The rooms are ok if you don't count the bad a/c and some issues with the age of the stuff inside.
There is free wifi everywhere. the breakfast is solid, but probably you can miss basic things like butter, for instance.
In general the hotel needs renovation.

• Small rooms but comfortable
• Decor was fancy but a bit on the old side
• Breakfast – terrible with stale and poor variety of food.
• Staff: Helpful and accommodating
• Location central to shops, sites and eating services. Noisy location

It seemed to be much better than whatever else was on offer, and overall we had a pleasant stay.

Located right next to the Alexandria library these hotel is located in downtown Alex. Hotel rooms are spacious & comfortable.
Staff is very friendly & helpful.
The area is very crowded & noisy but once you close the window noise is not an issue. Advantage of been located in downtown is you have all the things close by restaurants, shops, etc.
Would recommend it for a short stay...
The view of the sea is stunning from the sea facing rooms...
Also wide variety of breakfast just gives a perfect start to the day...

Room Tip: Sea side facing rooms are lovely...

For me , even with its good location in the centre, good breakfast, nice staff, I cannot stay again because of the noise
The street noise spreaded to you at your bed, if you are sensitive to these, then you will suffer

After staying in other 3*+ hotels in Alexandria, I stayed at Le Metropole for four nights and found it catered to more than 95% of my requirements. I had left the others as one was too remote and the other was like a traffic island with a great view. Alexandria is noisy and these better hotels are near the seaside and the main traffic of automobiles and trams.

The location is conveniently busy, but has most tourist services close. Staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful. I chose a superior room with a sea view and during my lapped up the atmosphere. The bathroom was large, but as in many old hotels, hot water took time to arrive.
WiFi worked well for me.

Breakfast was a vast array of food and beverage, with illogical workflow. By this I mean that where you might expect butter to be near the bread and pastries, it was somewhere apart; yoghurt was not near the fruit and cereals.
The quality of the food was good, but only Americans could appreciate the coffee. Omelettes was perfect and generally the beard and pastries fresh. There were six staff each morning, all eager to help carry your food selection to the table. Cutlery was sparse on the table and napkins were "on request".
Close by restaurants and bars were of similar ilk.

Generally, I found the service level at this hotel far higher than at any other Egyptian hotel. This hotel is not clinically efficient and sterile. Basil Faulty could not make it a better place.

Le Metropole is old world glam that would be twice the price if all the quirks were fixed. I will return.

The hotel is in a 100+ year old building complete with some wonderful antiques. Rooms have very high ceilings and as a consequence are airy. Our room (a standard double) had a balcony with shutters which kept out most of the noise. Alexandria is however a VERY noisy place, traffic is constant and horns are used all the time, nowhere is quiet by western standards.

Our room was clean and well kept, i cant comment on other rooms or other peoples comments about the hotel being dirty other than to say i saw nothing to be concerned about.

Breakfast was ok. The usual Egyptian hotel fare of boring bread, jam, poorly made omelette and juices. Nothing exciting but not inedible.

Our aircon was not working on arrival. I spoke to the concierge and within 15 minutes a maintenance crew (of 4) arrived and took it apart, half hour or so later it was fixed and all was well again. Management apologised for the problem so i dont see an issue with the hotel service.

I stayed 3 nights in le Metropole. The hotel was built in 1901 (I think) and works hard to retain its period features. The lift is very sweet and old fashioned, (but a little irritating to use after a while). The rooms are comfortable, if a little faded - although by Alexandria standards they're top notch. The bathroom was not good - very small and cramped and very low water pressure from a very old tap which was not in good working order.

Breakfast was so-so. Quite a good choice, but not much that I wanted to choose! Whoever heard of having a glass of strawberry jelly for breakfast?! I didn't eat at the hotel other than for breakfast so cannot comment on the quality of the food.

Location is fine - close to the corniche, and right in the downtown area. It is very busy and central - but also very noisy, so if you are sensitive to traffic noise and endless beeping of horns this might not be a good hotel for you. I found that as long as the windows and shutters were closed I could sleep quite well through it.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff were badly trained and disorganised. I would recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to Alexandria because I think compared to other hotels in the city it's quite good - but not really up to international standards.
