Sheraton Montazah Hotel
Ranked #12 of 38 Hotels in Alexandria
Reviewed December 29, 2013

We stayed at the Sheraton Montazah for a weekend at the end of November 2013. The location of the hotel is great, right on the corniche and right across Montazah Gardens which definitely are a must if you visit Alexandria. We had booked a sea view room, but on arrival, we were upgraded to a room that offered an amazing view of both the sea and the gardens, King Farouk's Palace included :). Speaking of staff, they were all amazing, going above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I have to admit I haven't seen so many smiling faces in a hotel for a while. To give you an example of how helpful they try to be, when we requested a kettle in the room, they sent one within 10 minutes followed by complimentary tea and coffee. It was a nice touch, although for a 5 star that should have been already provided! :) Also, it is easy to get a taxi from the hotel and go different places worth a visit. However, be careful what price you negotiate with the driver, as none of the taxis seem to have meters. We hired one for a trip to the Catacombs for 40 L.E. , but since the driver seemed like a very nice guy, we agreed on him to wait for us and take us further. We also visited Pompeii's Pillar, the Citadel of Qaitbay and stopped at Stanley Bridge. We had him for about 5 hours and paid 200 L.E. in all, tip included. If I remember well his name was Hany and he's one of the taxi drivers that often hang outside of the hotel. As other reviewers have mentioned, the rooms are not so large indeed, but do you really need a big room for a city break? Plus, it is very clean, offers a lot of facilities (several restaurants and bars, spa, fitness) and gives you one of the most competitive prices. All in all we had a great stay at the Sheraton Montazah and we'll definitely stay there again when in Alexandria.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level room on the corner with view of both the sea and the gardens!

Don't stay at this hotel, here are a few among many reasons as to why. Before Things such as service, quality comes into play , you have to consider the customer's respect..which this hotel has zero concept and understanding of. I went on my first trip to Alexandria and I made a few friends both male and females. And anytime any of my females friends would visit me the hotel security would harrass them and stare at them. Once a friend came to visit me, the same thing happend, we didn't appreciate getting stared at, so we went up to the room. what happend is they actually SENT A GUARD AFTER US! who knocked on the door and harrassed us. That was followed by a phone Call from the reception who demanded that I throw my guest out. Mind you this happend in daytime, so there was no reasons for "sucpect activity". I have never felt so disrespected before, and I have travelled all around the world.

Other reasons why NOT to stay at this hotel is:

*15% surprise service charge. This will make Your booking a Whole lot more expensive then advertised

*Really really really expensive wifi. You can easily add about 30%-40% to Your bill once you're checking out.

*the hotel breakfast is paid for in USDs! not egyptian currency, and it is ridiculously overpriced. They take USD but believe the prices are not very "american"

overall a bad experience. Don't og here if feeling respected is important to you

Please accept my sincere apologies for the unintentional inconvenience encountered during your stay with us, it was only a sort of mis-understanding, as it is only for our dear guests safety & security to be familiar with any outside visitor coming to visit any of our guestrooms so as the visitor should pass by the reception desk to register his name and any other detail if needed.

Again, I hope you accept our apologies assuring you of our commitment to providing you with the service levels and recognition you deserve and expect.

we greatly appreciate your patronage as a loyal guest of the Sheraton Montazah Hotel and want to make sure we remain your hotel of choice when visiting Alexandria.

It's good hotel, I advice this hotel, the main advantages are :
Very Cleanness - very polite and friendly staff any where - car parking - good location and view - delicious patisseries in breakfast
Disadvantages are :
Small room - small bathroom - Gateau taste is very bad - car parking fees 35 Egyptian Pound per day and it's not fit for 5 stars hotel - wifi not free and expensive .

Room Tip: Highest floors are better to be away of the central air conditions noise, and to see the sea by side...

The ONLY good thing in that hotel it is just near to Montazah and away from every thing else in this beautiful city.

the hotel is very crawdad with people and the lobby is very noisy.

Rooms is very small and as a 5 stars hotel rooms are old and not nice at all it is as if you are staying a small cabin and not much clean in addition every 5 minutes the room service guys nocks your door to ask you if you have the towels, rob, slippers and of course to get the tip.

more ever the people in the gate are very nice and they can help you with arranging taxi driver to take you for a tour in the city at very affordable rate.

Hotel is at all not recommended unless you have no other options

Room Tip: All are the same

We stayed at this hotel twice, it's always crowded and almost fully occupied but despite that the staff is really working hard to please. Rooms, location, and restaurant are average.. we even had to wait for more than half an hour to have breakfast at the restaurant one day!
For me, having to cross the road to reach the beach is the biggest letdown.

Prior, when dealing with reception, send your roommate to verify the view. If you have the side to the next building, it is NOT ok. Montazah Gardens view is better, best you can have the Sea view, try to negotiate. As transit, it’s perfect. But if you want to spend some time and see some of Alexandria’s hot spots, better to be in the middle of the town, close to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Food was clean and tasty, helpful staff and a room without problems.

I had a welcoming stay. The view of the sea/Montazah Gardens were very good. Sadly the hotel appeared to be lacking in some investment. The pool etc was being repainted/much of the gym equipment was out of order and awaiting spare parts. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to help , The restaurants in Montazah Gardens were well worth a visit but can get crowded at weekends because of weddings
