Good location, average place

Review of Hotel Acropole
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 24, 2012
I spent 2 nights in this hotel. It is located in the middle of the city and the local tram station is in a few minutes walking distance so most of the sightseeings can be reached easily either by walk or with tram. The room was meeting local standards, however staff could work a little more on cleanliness. The staff and management was kind and helped me with some touristic information once I asked them. If you are looking for a cheap place only to sleep there and not particularly care about quality, while you want to be close to everything, then this place can be a good option for you.

Did not find many options to stay in Alexandria on websites. Chose Acropole as price was 1/4 of next listed hotel. I slept in shack with chickens in Africa; at least it was basically clean. Why Acropole hotel will not keep the rooms clean to basic standard I do not know.

To be fair. The beds and towels were clean. You do need flip-flops at all times as floor, especially carpets are filthy. The bathroom, this is technically a bathroom, but I cannot not really agree this fit the definition. Again, filthy.

Owner would offer help to arrange taxis to El Alamein. At a very high price (perhaps 50% inflated) and hours later than agreed. Be careful. Perhaps ring in advance, or better, arrange your own taxi in accordance to guide books.

On the bright side, the hotel in excellent location with superb view of sea and small square.

Room tip: If you must stay here, bring flip-flops and anti-bacteria wipes.

The room was nice, the beds were clean but the shared bathroom was not as clean, the toilet was broken every morning and full of s***, but normally in the afternoon they had fixed it. We were promised a TV and after the third night (of 5) when we left the key in the reiception so the staff could bring in the TV we gave up trying because nothing ever happened and they didn't even bother to tell us it was not possible. It's not possible for foreigners to bargin here, the manager told us 100EGP (for a double with shared) was for travellers, only Egyptians could get a discount.
Well centered though and we slept well through the night.

Room tip: They have better beds and cleaner rooms where there is no seaview (don't know why??)

Well! this time we experienced history of Egypt, arriving at Cairo in january 2011 at the beginning of the protest and watching the celebrations from the balcony of The Hotel Acropole at Alexandria. The place is clean and just had a redecoration. The manager is still helpful (Was our second time). He volontary updates our room at a discount price. The room was clean with comfortable double bed, TV and a small bathroom built in the room (no ceeling so humidity and smell can disturb); the included breakfast is ...minimum. The balcony has a great view on the park and the corniche along the water....all the way to the light house. Situated at level the elavator acces is ...old.... Well center, we suggest a try

Room tip: Try it, better compare to similar around,
