The museum is the proof of the importance this area once had. It exhibits a lot of old objects, from neolithic pots to roman columns and greek coins. It's a delight for ancient history lovers.
My only objection is the lack of exhibits or information about the more modern times, starting from the Renessaince period up until now. The only part dedicated to this was an exhibition about the Danube Commission, which, by the way, is more related to Galați and Sulina than to Tulcea itself. I would be interested to know more about the post-Byzantine period and about the decline of the city and of the surroundings.

Situated on a hill with a emblematic statue on top of it. The climbing to this statue is a little bit difficult (you can use stairs or an alley - the longer way)

Tiny museum but I liked the displays and the fact they are in English. If you are going to the memorial this is a nice stop.

For a mere 7.5 lei you can see some amazingly well-preserved artifacts taken from 5 or 6 different area sites. There are explanations in English at some exhibits, French or German at others, Romanian at all.
If you can't actually get TO Argamum or Histria, this is the next best thing. Next door, exhibits rotate. Through January 2015, see the exhibit "Light and Omen"--ritual and spirituality and light and candles and making light through history. While your up there, catch the view from the Monument--you can walk up the road from the Museum and avoid most of the stairs. Best at sunset.

Could not believe we were the only people visiting this museum on a lovely Saturday. It is an amazing, extremely comprehensive, and clearly set out presentation of the history of the Tulcea region. The English text was very much appreciated.
