This is a farm fresh café with mostly soups, stews, some small side plates, wine, beer, and dessert.- as far as we could tell. Everything we had was fantastic- if we are in Brasov again, we will go back. Charming place, nice waiter, give it a try !

We were searching in the rain for a non-smoking restaurant and chanced upon La Ceaun. People already eating were happy to change tables to enable 7 of us to sit together. This small restaurant has a lovely, informal atmosphere and friendly service. There is a separate menu for each day of the week, each with a small number of main dishes freshly cooked in a pot (hence the name) on the day. And we enjoyed an excellent local beer. Altogether a most enjoyable evening.

I have been able to visit La Ceaun regularly over the last few months and have been impressed by the consistency of quality on each visit. The soups and stews are made fresh every day with quality ingredients primarily sourced locally. The small dishes that accompany are also excellent: homemade pickles (tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower), fasolita (essentially a white bean dip or spread, like hummus) and the beet salad with horseradish.

Each day there are three main choices, usually two soups, one of which is a ciorba, a sour soup, and one one of which is vegetarian. The third choice is some kind of stew, either cabbage with smoked meat (delicious), chicken paprikas (delicious), beef stew with dumplings (delicious), you get the picture. Every dish comes with a few slices of traditional potato bread, a Transylvanian specialty, hot pepper, and sour cream. The menu changes daily.

Conveniently, La Ceaun opened a sit down location next door with more seats, a slightly larger menu and a full bar. On offer there are simple appetizers, such as branza and tomatoes (feta type cheese) of exceptional freshness and quality. The bar menu is quite complete as well, including many cocktails (aperol spritz please!), locally made palinca (plum brandy), beer on tap and in bottles. Also, special for the early summer, suc de soc (elderflower juice). Suc de soc is made with elderflower blossoms, lemons and sugar, and is a delicious refreshing alternative to soft drinks.

This is a lovely restaurant with a comfortable and cozy ambiance and consistently superb soups and stews.

Enjoy!!

When I left this place, I though "if I don't already have an account on trip advisor, then I will make one so that I can review and support this place and all that it stands for."

So I did! And now I would like to say that La Ceaun is one of my best dinning experiences ever. This place is one of the most beautiful and tasteful representations of classic Romanian cooking that I have ever seen or tasted. The warm and welcoming employees encompass the true warm and hospitable Romanian heart. I was thankful to be able to meet the chef and owner and to taste their wonderful chiorba- arguably the most traditional of all Romanian dishes.

Affordable, hospitable, and welcoming, La Ceaun is a dream come true of a Romanian dinning experience.

aka Romanian sour soup. Walked into this tiny place, and got the very tasty soup of the day for just 9 lei. Bread basket, cream and pickles included. Would come back for my soup fix any day
