Ok, first I have to say that I'm not in particularly good shape and I'm terrified of heights. My husband is the opposite. We decided to hike the switchback path up from the base of the cable car. We had to keep an eye out for the red and white triangles, but it was marked fine.
Weather conditions were perfect and it was easy and beautiful, although there were a few narrow spots on the trail that scared me a little (nothing major). It took just under an hour even with me going my own speed. My husband could have done it much faster. In fact, we were passed by several people, some much older. One man in his 60s (or maybe older) jogged past us!
We saw no bears, but definitely evidence that they'd been through the trash.
I'll be taking the cable car back down and the hubby is hiking. The top has great views, worth the trip however you do it.
