“Great staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

Unlike a lot of hostels, you can get to this one easily. Got a triple (actually a quad) for 3 of us which was spacious and comfortable. No A/C though windows made a cool night breeze at this time of year. Yeah, you hear the kid next door and the dog but if you had done any hiking around, all that disappears in a few minutes. Yeah, you take your shoes off at the door- it is a tough life, ey? The breakfast is just enough to get you out the door- did you come for the food? And, there is a common area inside and outside if you want to chat. The deal with this hostel is can you get info and assistance from the staff, and can you chat up the other folks about what is going on? Yes to both. Diana is great and gives it her all. In a year i will forget if the toilet leaked (6 out of 10 in Romania do) but i won't forget good people. There are good hostels in Brasov and this is one.

Room Tip: Can't say anything about the dorms. Be sure to suck up the local wine and meats. Good stuff.

Our group booked three private rooms at the hostel for a short, one night stop in Brasov. While we did not know when we first booked that the private rooms were not in fact in the hostel (this was our mistake) we were surprised to find out that our rooms were extremely far from city center in a somewhat run down apartment building. The website does not indicate how far and we believe this fact should be noted on the website. When we arrived we were told it would be around a 25 minute walk, it as more like 45 to the center. We also had to drive the person in charge to the apartment and back to the hostel when she was finished. The apartment itself, while clean, was very outdated. The beds were terrible and the sheets looked extremely old. The apartment is by the station so trains could be heard all day and night. As for the positive, the woman who checked us in did give a lot of useful information as to places to see. Overall, it was quite disappointing though the price was cheap.

Room Tip: Do not book a private room! Stick with the dorm beds.

We stayed here two nights recently. And the hostel was pretty full on both nights, largely due to the fact that our visit coincided with that of a large group of American missionaries (about 25 of them I think).

The volume of guests inevitably put a strain on the facilities in the hostel. There were not a huge number of bathrooms so we had to wait a while for a shower. There was limited space for luggage, not enough wardrobes when the room was filled to capacity with every bed taken. Also the number of power points was limited so charging my mobile 'phone/camera could prove difficult though I always found somewhere.

That said, this was not a bad hostel and it would be overly harsh to leave a negative review. The hostel offered a basic breakfast (toast) and free WiFi which was useful. The lady in charge was very helpful and gave us an enthusiastic run-through of local attractions. The hostel also ran trips for guests to Bran Castle etc and although I did not get involved, I thought this was a great thing to do. There was also a computer for guests to share and a TV to unwind in front of after a long day. Also the location was very pretty. Not all of Brasov is picturesque but the situation of the hostel, by the old town, was very nice. I liked the vicinity as well, nice patio outside for socialising with fellow travellers.

All in all, not the best hostel in the world but it has its plus points. On a quiet night I'm sure it is a good hostel. On a busy night it was not the worst place I could have stayed by any means.

Rolling Stone is more of a house than a hostel. Managed by two sisters who will truly take care of you. A couple of friendly cats. Light, complimentary breakfast. Within walking distance of Old Town and the main square. Grocery store close by.

TONS of beds. Not tons of bathrooms. Main common room is a great way to meet others staying there...same for the small kitchen and dining area. Very "family" feel on both accounts.

Check it out. This place is worth your time.

There was a school group of about 40 students that stayed in this hostel when we stayed. There were two bathrooms to share between over 40 people. The toliets and basin were inside with the shower so every morning, we had to wait at least 10min before we could use the bathroom and we were queuing outside. Also the toliet doesnt flush well. Given the number of beds they have, they could have more bathrooms. I believe there may have been an extra toilet in the dorm rooms. The hostel also include breakfast, which consisted of bread, artificial tasting jam (which they refilled the jars with) and tea bags. It wasnt great. We had a private room and the room itself was ok. The lady running the place was also a bit pushy with her tours. I wouldnt stay here again.

hostel was ok. the girl running it was OTT friendly at check in and then unhelpful when it really mattered. She wouldnt ring to book us onto a bus iinsisting that it wouldnt be full. She organised a lift for us (her fathers car) to the bus station. but when we got there and the bus was full (as we suspected it might be) we had to get a taxi back to the hostel. the taxi home was LESS THAN HALF what we were charged by her dad to drive us there.
and the toilet leaked in our bedroom
we stayed here in 2010

The two sisters who run the hostel from day to day are energetic like Duracell bunnies and will try to help you out even unasked.
Besides the hostel, the owner also maintains an apartment with a few rooms and shared bathroom, which is basic but decnt enough. The hostel rooms are a bit of a factory. Large with beds lined up right next to each other. There are no lockers.

The location is almost in the heart of town. Convenient for the evenings, but also far from the stations.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the dorms
