“Good location, but ....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

The hotel is located on the very center of Sibiu, just near the Pedestrian Street. Looks nice outside (renovated), the reception staff was excellent in dealing with our reservation.
However, when entering the room (the luxe) we noticed the total lack of any privacy. A glass wall with 2 holes will make your visit to the toilet visible and audible to your wife/husband/partner. As a friend said: a memorable experience and your relationship will become unbreakable or ... break. The shower separated also by glass door had a tube, but very small and dangerously slippery. The other parts of bathroom are in the ... room! It is clear that the owners commissioned the refurbishment to some fancy designers with no experience in living in a hotel.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, but breakfast is not a memorable experience. Enough food, average quality, but the old coffee machine is often broken, or when not broken there is not milk.
Many waiters are in their 60s and while with good intentions they exhibit old habits.

Room Tip: Ask for a front view, you will see, weather permitting, the Transylvanian Alps!

We stayed in the hotel for one night during our visit in Romania. The hotel is centrally located, the room was large and clean, the front desk personnel was very helpfull and car parking was available for 2 euros a day. Breakfast was good but very basic.

The Continental Forum is a nice place to stay in Sibiu. It is convenient to the city center of Sibiu, right at the edge of the old town area. The room was large and clean. A basic room in a mid-level hotel. The beds are platform style and could be more comfortable, but were fine for our stay. Air conditioning can be controlled in the room making for a comfortable stay. Noise from the nearby streets was not noticeable in the room. The hotel and restaurant staff were helpful and friendly.

A note if you have a car; parking is located in the front of the hotel in the spaces marked with an "R". If you leave for the day, mention this to the front desk so that your space will be saved when you return, because there are limited spaces..

We stayed here for 5 nights with a group of ballet dancers from the US. The hotel was centrally located and perfect for easy access to the square, shopping and the theater. Alex at the front desk was very helpful and arranged a tour for us to see Dracula's Castle. The rooms were all different sizes and arrangements. We turned the heat off in our room and were still roasting so we opened the outside windows. THe hotel restaurant was terrible!!! The bowling alley was fun for the kids!!! We would not stay here again but would stay across the street at the Ramada. We spent 2 evenings in their lounge and found it very nice and modern.

The Continental Forum is the former Communist nomenklatura hotel right at the edge of Sibiu's fabulous historic old town. It is in a kind of classic Stalinist style (i.e. not the hideous style of East Bloc hotels in the 1970's) thus does not jar too much with the surroundings. It has been completely rennovated in a kind of Balkan meets the 1980's style, and inside is virtually unrecognisable inside from the dowdy atmosphere prevailing a decade earlier. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the once intimidating lobby is bright and airy. We had booked a junior suite, with my assumption being that suites would overlook the large Communist era square in front. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and we had a "suite" at the back, kind of dark, claustrophobic and furnished with IKEA style furniture had IKEA been around in the 1980's (lots of chrome and bright blue cushions). I partly blame myself for having not indicated "front" view and just assuming prime rooms would be situated there. I might have protested, but had gotten a very good rate on the Hotel's website and was tired from a long day of touring. The suite was very clean. The bathroom large and well-outfitted. Breakfast was good by Romanian standards. It is a short pretty wander into the magnificent old town, which on a sunny spring evening with many locals soaking up the sun seemed like a nice provincial town in Germany or Switzerland...far removed from the odd vibe in Bucharest.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a room toward the front. Suites are not nessarily in prime locations.
