Continental Forum Sibiu
Ranked #9 of 31 Hotels in Sibiu
Reviewed March 30, 2012

We stayed here for 5 nights with a group of ballet dancers from the US. The hotel was centrally located and perfect for easy access to the square, shopping and the theater. Alex at the front desk was very helpful and arranged a tour for us to see Dracula's Castle. The rooms were all different sizes and arrangements. We turned the heat off in our room and were still roasting so we opened the outside windows. THe hotel restaurant was terrible!!! The bowling alley was fun for the kids!!! We would not stay here again but would stay across the street at the Ramada. We spent 2 evenings in their lounge and found it very nice and modern.

The Continental Forum is the former Communist nomenklatura hotel right at the edge of Sibiu's fabulous historic old town. It is in a kind of classic Stalinist style (i.e. not the hideous style of East Bloc hotels in the 1970's) thus does not jar too much with the surroundings. It has been completely rennovated in a kind of Balkan meets the 1980's style, and inside is virtually unrecognisable inside from the dowdy atmosphere prevailing a decade earlier. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the once intimidating lobby is bright and airy. We had booked a junior suite, with my assumption being that suites would overlook the large Communist era square in front. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and we had a "suite" at the back, kind of dark, claustrophobic and furnished with IKEA style furniture had IKEA been around in the 1980's (lots of chrome and bright blue cushions). I partly blame myself for having not indicated "front" view and just assuming prime rooms would be situated there. I might have protested, but had gotten a very good rate on the Hotel's website and was tired from a long day of touring. The suite was very clean. The bathroom large and well-outfitted. Breakfast was good by Romanian standards. It is a short pretty wander into the magnificent old town, which on a sunny spring evening with many locals soaking up the sun seemed like a nice provincial town in Germany or Switzerland...far removed from the odd vibe in Bucharest.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a room toward the front. Suites are not nessarily in prime locations.

Great place to stay, rooms are clean (shower in the room but it's cool with a girlfriend) . My slight disappointment was that the facilities for which I carefully chose this hotel over the others were not available. On my arrival, I was told the spa was only from 2pm Monday to Friday, so it was left till the Monday to find out that the sauna, jacuzzi and bowling were all un available "temporarily" and the fitness room only had 3 machines.

I recomend it as an excellent one!

The bathroom and the shower are somehow part of the room because there are separated from the room by glass . Beds are large and comfortable.

Compared with other hotels in the Continetal chain the rooms re quite big . The bathroom and the shower are somehow part of the room because there are separated from the room by glass . Beds are resonable sized and comfortable. For a quiet night ask for aroom facing the interior courtyard. Breakfast is ok.
The location is really in the center of the town .
Good value for money.

After our stay in Bucharest we moved to Sibiu, and the Tour Hotel was the Continental Forum. Outside you will find a typical communist time style building, all in stone and open to a parking in a roundabout. Up to here the best of the hotel.

Location is fine at just some minutes away from the Medieval area and the Brukental Museum.

Rooms are all blue, with blue carpet, blue door, blue walls and blue furniture. A dream for Smurfs lovers. Away from colour tastes, rooms are medium size, the carpet was clean and the toilet too. The bed was quite comfortable but, again in Romania, pillows are the slimmest you can imagine.

Shower and toilet are in a cristal box in the middle of the room, small and not very practical: no place for your bath stuff, no ammenities and no towels when we arrived. By the way, none of us had towels in the room at arrival.

During our stay there was a youth congress, noisy as hell, we had to complain at 3:00 am to the reception desk demanding someone to call noisy rooms. They were quite efficient. Due to this massive congress we had really few attention from the staff so be cautious and confirm if there are events running before you come to this hotel.

Breakfast deserves an specific point: is dreadful!!! low quality, not very clean stuff, rude waiters and unhealthy products. Forget fresh fruit, fresh juices, fresh bread variety and welcome fatty industrial muffins and dairy.

In a word: go further in your hotel search in the area, and if this is your chance don't expect much.
