Owner description: Sibiu is one of Romania's cultural and tourism capitals, attracting tourists due to its wonderful medieval charm. The city's historical centre has been recently renovated in 2006 and looks spectacular. The Large Square, Brukenthal Museum, Liars’ Bridge, Evangelic Church, Citadel wall with 3 towers are just some of the attraction to be seen in Sibiu. You can enjoy our daily city tours from 10:00 from Piata Mare nr. 12.

Beautiful centre that still have not only well restored buildings and squares, but also has lived in houses full of character and pretty details. Has a very nice relaxed feel and not too many tourists.

Sibiu and its surroundings are one of the most visited areas in Romania. The historical center is one of the best preserved historical sites in the country. In Sibiu there are museums covering art collections, paintings, decorative arts, anthropology, history, archeology, history of technology and natural sciences. The city lies near Fagaras Mountains - an important destination for hiking - and the resort Păltiniş - a destination for winter sports. In the area there are many fortified churches built by Saxon settlers.

Less amazing, perhaps, for Europeans, a visit to Sibiu is almost guaranteed to dazzle North Americans. Designated Europe's 2007 cultural centre, the city went to great lengths to restore the historic buildings lining the square to their former grandeur. The chief complaint from our two older teens was that they simply didn't know where to look because everything was amazing. For those who like their old buildings more picturesque, simply go for a stroll and you'll find the crumbling remains of the old Medieval fortifications.

Sibiu is a beautiful Germanic city in Romania. Overall, it is much prettier than most cities in Romania. Romania is fortunate that old town Sibiu was not destroyed during WW II. As our guide noted, a significant restoration and new building was done in 2008 as part of a European conference. Even the exterior appearance of the ubiquitous drab, concrete gray communist era apartments were enhanced. It is amazing how some color (other than concrete gray) improves the (exterior) appearance of these inherently ugly buildings.

Sibiu does not have the population of historic cities like Cluj or Brasov, but size is not everything. What Sibiu lacks in size it more than makes up for in history and sheer beauty. Yes, by all means fall in love with Piata Mare and Piata Mica, but allow time to explore the tiny alleyways and passageways and cobbled lanes and steps and medieval towers and city walls. Just amazing!
