“Good food, music a bit loud"”
Reviewed January 30, 2012

Visited Staro selo this Saturday with some friends. The food was very good, and so was the service, I would definitely go back there again. The only thing, was that the music was a bit too loud. In a place where you go for a meal, I think the music should be a bit lower, and then after people eat, jack it up as high as you want. Everybody was very nice there, I liked the food, as well as the habit they have of throwing napkins when excited. I think it is a must when in varna.

“Has the potential to be really good place, but is not”
Reviewed September 29, 2011

I have been there to eat one night, and another one time for New Year's Eve. Food is not so good - nothing special. The clientelle is not high class - have that in mind! Music is aufull, service too. Pitty - becasue location and atmosphere are so great!

“This place is over rated”
Reviewed August 31, 2011

This is owned by the same chain that owns Happy. So I was expecting something more. I would not go back to this place. It was not bad. The food was just OK. It was not as good as Happy, and nowhere near as good as some of the other restaurants in Varna. The prices were really cheap. Most things on the menu were about 2 euro. So if you like cheap stuff, you will love it.

Other than that the place was too loud and too much smoking. Would not recommend this place

“Absolute top place when in Varna.”
Reviewed May 15, 2011

A little bit out of the way from the centre, but don't let that stop you and jump in a cab for the few minutes drive away.
Immediately impressed with the almost ranch like appearance inside, very traditional and inviting. Lost count how many tables this place has, seats who knows hundred, two hundred...??? Our table ordered a series of small plates and wow, after that we were too stuffed to order a main. The atmosphere is topped up with the accompanying band and singers, not forgetting the wonderful local people up all night dancing. The prices you don't need to worry, they are so cheap you have to look twice at the menu. Would highly recommend to anyone and would return if in Varna again. Thank you to all the staff who made our night special.

“If I could give it more than 5 stars for atmosphere and value I would!!”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

We visited this restaurant whilst in Varna this April, which is the low season for the coastal city. Deciding to try for the real local experience, we took the bus out. The restaurant isn't that far out of the main part of town, and in fact it was a really pleasant walk back through the park, but as it was getting late and we were getting hungry, we took the bus the 2 stops. Incidentally, you just jump on the bus, and a conductor comes around and sells you tickets for 1lv each.
So the first night, we arrived at the restaurant (as mentioned by a previous reviewer - called 'Old Village' on the tourist map) and walked inside to find people dancing, singing and eating and an overall amazing atmosphere, all on a Monday night. Unfortunately we discovered when trying to get a table, that it was completely booked out for a private function. That explains the crowd, we thought...
So we walked back towards the hotel and found an excellent Spanish alternative, 'Bodega' which I would also highly recommend.
The next day we asked our hotel to call and check that there wasn't another private function, and to make a booking for us. They booked us in for 9pm and off we went. Half expecting the place to be empty (like most of the Black Sea coast in April), we arrived to find just as electric an atmosphere as the previous night. The place is amazing - the live music, singing, dancing (including one song when pretty much everyone in the restaurant joined hands and danced together in a big circle) and great Bulgarian food, not to mention incredible value (whole meal for 2 including a bottle of wine and desert was about 20 euros) made it overall one of our best nights out in Bulgaria.
Don't miss it, and make sure you book!
