Owner description: Bulgaria's "second city", Plovdiv has 19th century houses and Roman ruins, including a Roman amphitheater in use today.

Plovdiv is the oldest town in Europe, having been settled millennia ago. The old part of the town is particularly charming and well preserved. Home to many museums, restaurants and an amphitheatre which still hosts many performances, the cobblestoned streets of Plovdiv offer unique insight into the culture, history and atmosphere of this beloved town.

If you like scrambling up and won cobbled streets, and ruminating over Roman ruins, go to Plovdiv's Old Town. The place reeks of Roman history. Maybe you'll unleash a deja vu from ancient times. The street ambiance is intoxicating. Old architecture, and don't forget the "mousetrap", a warren of very narrow, very old streets dating back to roman times. What's not to fall in love with?

One not to be missed, Plovdiv Old Town has a collection of traditional old houses, mainly of the affluent type, that will make you think you have travelled through a time machine. A lot of the houses have been recently restored and are open to visitors. The best ones are Hindliyan and Nedkovich, as they have been more faithfully restored. There are also some very nice restaurants in the area and if you only have a few hours to spare in Plovdiv this is the place to come to. Also, don't miss the St Konstantine and Helena church, which is also amazing and decorated in Bulgarian revival style. Enjoy!

The culture, the ruins, the history. It is a city that fills the heart of many historians, archeologists and fans of ancient times. The amphitheater is a must visit and the old town is just beautiful. One big downside was the graffiti all around the place. None the less, must go!
