The Roman Theatre is accessed by walking over very rough stone streets. It is up a hill but not a problem for a person of average fitness. The site is protected by thick iron bars but the view of the theatre and Plovdiv city is still good. For a relatively high fee you can pass through the fence and enter the theatre. We chose not to as it is relatively small as amphi-theatres go and did not see that it offered value for money. It was hot so we tried to buy cold water from the adjacent kiosk. Only room temperature water was available and it was selling at a premium. A much better option is to fill up at the spring beside the mosque on the way up.
