“They do their best”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

I stayed here for a week and it was pleasant enough. For breakfast I would usually have either the eggs or the pancakes. It is strange that they have these options for what they say is a continental breakfast in the menu! They also charge extra for milk if you are having coffee.... Although this seems to be common everywhere in Sevastopol.
I also had dinner there on one night. I had the steak and it was quite good. The waiters and waitresses seem quite young and they are very efficient, swooping off your plates as soon as you are done. From what I gather the restaurant and the hotel are under different management.

The hotel itself has free wifi although this seems to only work right next to the reception. The rooms are clean and spacious. I had the room right by the reception. They seem to just throw the sheet and blanket back onto the bed and dont do that tight bed making technique you would expect of a hotel, but that really doesn't matter. They definately don't change the beddings until you have gone as my friend had some shreddings off her pyjamus onto the sheets and that was left there the whole time...
Anyway, minor things really... It is a good hotel all in all, and it is close to the beach.

Room Tip: Avoid the room next to the reception if at all possible as there is no balcony on the ground floor.

Nice place to stay, clean and quiet, not in the centre of Sevastopol, but good located if you want to see something more than centre of town. Great possibility to visit other district of Sevastopol, you can visit from that part of town every lovely beach around. Breakfast was not varied at all, but you could buy something extra in restaurant. Service was great, very helpfull. They have also nice equipped sauna.

It's my second stay at this hotel. Absolutely wonderful. Great friendly service, clean and modern rooms, very good breakfast. I was surprised the hotel even organized a Halloween party for guests with free cocktails, disco, all staff were dressed up as monsters!!;))) wonderful hotel! Great for people who come to Sevastopol for business. Very close to a 5 star hotel Aquamarine which has a wonderful spa, swimming pools, saunas etc.

This is a great hotel to stay in which offers comfort and good value

On arrival
Greeting was cheerful though the night man was not able to speak any English but I do have some Russian language skills so no problem there. He picked up my cases at the taxi and took them inside. Showed me he wanted to me to fill in a simple form (the form is in written in English and Russian so not problem there). Once this formality was completed the guy picked up my cases again and led the way up the steps to the first floor and a nicely appointed room. Whilst there were not any niceties like showing how things work. But hey this is not that type of place and let’s face it, if you cannot work out how to turn on a TV….!

The Room
Functional and simple, bathroom has a massive shower area (which is something I like a lot) and overall the bathroom is a really generous size. It does however have one of those annoying shelves jutting out just above the wash hand basin which seems to be a favourite of the Russian / Ukrainian hotel bathrooms. The net effect of this is that each time you bend down to rinse your face you get nutted on the forehead... Well I do anyway! Oh and another seemingly Russian hotel tradition is to not supply a drain plug for the sink, so you might need to improvise if you need to fill up the sink.
The room itself is spacious and has a balcony. The room is air conditioned for comfort. There is a small fridge and TV with satellite reception, though I could only find one English channel which was the BBC World News, the rest were predominantly Russian TV channels with a surprising Arabic channel or two. There are numerous electrical sockets in the room but bizarrely at the desk (where you may want to work on your laptop) there is only one electrical socket and that is in use by the WiFi router.... So not a good idea to unplug that! By the way the Internet access is free and at a good speed. Overall the room was really comfortable. The housekeeping standards could have been a little better, on one day the two glasses in the room and a tablespoon (used to eat some yoghurt the previos evening) were left unwashed on the desk. But this doesn't detract from the general cleanliness of the room which was clean and fresh towels placed in the bathroom on a daily basis.

The Location
If you are looking for a place which is close to the centre of the city or close to the seaside attractions of Sevastopol, this will probably not be your first choice of hotel. A taxi fare from the hotel to the city or the popular seafront will cost around 40 to 50 UKR Hrivna and takes about 10 to 15 mins depending on traffic. Of course if you are a seasoned traveller to these parts, hop onto one of the many mashrutkas and pay only 2.5 UKR Hrivna. One taxi driver tried to bust us for 70UKH for the trip back to the hotel... I think he detected some English being spoken so do be wary! Needless to say we settled for a journey in a different taxi.

Breakfast
The breakfast choices were pancakes with jam, porridge, eggs (3 of them fried) Everything comes with bread, some cheese and some slices of ham style sausage followed by tea or coffee. I tried the pancakes and eggs and they were well prepared and tasty. On the fourth morning there was a hiccup with breakfast which meant I did not get any! On reflection it appears that the breakfast team (one lone youngish but pleasant girl) had arrived late. The receptionist was very apologetic and she did offer to have breakfast made for me there and then, which I declined.

Overall
Was it perfect? No it wasn't (and where is) but there is really nothing to complain about. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The two different receptionists I had contact with were well spoken in English and happily arranged taxis and city maps etc. The value for money was excellent.

I visit the Crimea fairly often and I will certainly use this hotel again if I am back in Sevastopol. I can say without any hesitation that I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly and it becomes my first 5 Star rating for a hotel.
