“Lovely drive, if a bit expensive”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

The scenery was wonderful from the bus and the (included) visit to the roman mosaics was interesting (just a 10 minute stop). The (included) commentary was funny - some translation software has been used that makes for additional entertainment!

Just beware that the "hop on/ hop off" arrangement only works if you can schedule the 40-minute gaps between buses and there's not much to see with the possible exception of a little beachfront area that has a couple of restaurants.

We got to Kotor on a cruiseship and really wanted to take the bike tour as the waterside is flat and the scenery would be terrific on a bike.

The cost at €20 per person was a little steep and it's cash only.

“Could be a good value but...”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We took this tour while there were 2 cruise ships in town and we felt that it was aimed at this clientele and not for the ordinary tourist. First, the tour is interesting : the itinerary is very well designed , it is a nice way to go around the bay which is simpley GORGEOUS ,and the explanations provided in 6 different languages are excellent . Second, the bus is comfortable even though it could be very hot in the months of July and August. Third, when we took it, it only offered a stop (HOHO ) in Perast for 45 minutes but people who took this option ended up standing on the way back, not only was it uncomfortable but also hazardous !
Finally, there is a walking tour of Kotor offered at the end on the pamphlet ! The info. provided at the beginning was that the tour started at 14.00 hrs, when we got off the bus we were told 14h30 and when we got to the meeting point we were told 14h15 ! Finally, the walking tour started at 14h40 and there were only 5 of us left out of a potential of 40 !!! But this walking tour was EXCELLENT ; Stefan was very interesting , knowledable and ery proficient in English. We saw similar walking tours from Celebrity, MSC, Seabourn which lasted the same time and must have costed much more !
This is a product that has a lot of potential but requires some improvement ! And by the way we have done 32 similar HOHO tours around the world so far.We would rate this one as #31

“Kotor Open Tour”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

I think the previous reviewer is writing about a different experience. This review is for the Kotor Open Tour, the large open top buses that run between Kotor and Perast in the summer months. I cannot recommend this tour for the following reasons.

The tour is advertised as "hop on hop off", which everywhere else in Europe means that you can leave the bus at any point and spend some time in one of the destinations, then catch a later bus to move to the next point. While we were allowed to spend some extra time in Perast, we were given only 10 minutes in Risan, which was extremely disappointing (barely enough to see the mosaics).

Furthermore, our bus did not stop at Bajova kula on the return to Kotor so we missed one of the stops we paid for. Again, we were extremely disappointed. No explanation was offered.

Most upsetting was that we were not able to take the walking tour of Kotor Old Town. The brochure states that tours are offered at 1.00 pm, 5.00 pm and 8.00 pm daily. We waited at the main town entrance at 8.00pm but no guide appeared and we could not participate in the walking tour. Again, we were extremely disappointed as the walking tour was one of the main reasons we chose to buy a ticket.

The charge of 20 Euro is extremely high for the tour and that amount is completely unreasonable if one does not receive most of the services advertised. To repeat, our tour was not "hop on hop off", one of the stops was missed and we did not have a walking tour.

I know that the Open Tour is relatively new and may be experiencing some problems in its early stages. Hopefully they will improve the service next summer but for now I have no choice but to warn visitors to Kotor away from this overpriced and disappointing service.
