We sailed into Kotor Bay in the early morning - a stunning sight in the misty sunshine. The bay is pretty in all directions. The town of Kotor is at the end of the fjord. I don't think it is a fjord, as fjords are glacially made and I think this is a flooded river valley, but that's just the pedantic geologist in me. The bay is particularly beautiful from the hillside fort, some 1,352 steps above the town.

We stopped at Kotor for a day from a cruise and it certainly is worth a visit and perhaps a longer stay. Fascinatingly beautiful location made really interesting by our informative knowledgeable experienced and fun private guide Liset Rios de Kuhar who can be contacted at

Liset is a lovely charming Peruvian Lady with excellent language skills and a very detailed knowledge of Montenegro it's history culture traditions and tourist sites.
Montenegro a great place to visit and Liset an essential addition if you want to fully enjoy the experience.

The bay which is dotted with pretty buildings is surrounded by very dramatic mountains. easy to drive around and there is an inexpensive ferry to return.

We took a boat around the Kotor Bay from Tivat, swimming all along the bay, then stopping at Herceg-Novi, a small but lovely town. Lots and lots of stairs that do not seem all that exciting during a terribly hot day but it was still fun and what made things more fun was the challenge it created.
Back to the track you'll find yourself at an artificial island built of rocks and a tiny church on it.
Kotor. Beside its oldtown it attracts with the thousands of stairs up the mounts to a monastery. Adorable.

Kotor, set on a fjord, was a cruise stop for us. Breathtaking views surrounded the ship as it made its way through the Bay of Kotor. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I've included pictures.
