It was the best stop in our cruise ( Holland America) from Athens to Olympia then to Corfu and KOTOR, after we went to Dubrovnik, Naples and Rome.

we arrived at dawn and enjoyed coming into the bay ....you can see from my pictures, the view was just spectacular. Went to Perast and visited the Lady of the Rock Church....drove to Buspa and walked through their Old town...on our way back to Kotor we had a priceless airrial view of the bay of Kotor. We then explored the Old town of Kotor and climbed up the side of the mountain just past the church and saw another spectacular view.....it was one of the best days I have had in a long time...pictures will tell it all. We caught a tour from those just outside the cruise ship dock...much cheaper than that offered by the ship. Paid 25 euros each for a group of 8 for trip to Perast, Budva and back to Kotor.

The Bay of Kotor is fabulous. It is a lovely fjord bay and reflects the spectacular mountains in its water. As my wife has walking difficulties we hired a taxi from Montenegro Car Hire with driver Maco. This is the man you need to drive you safely around this area. He is so professional at his skill of driving and has a vast knowledge of the countryside. Thanks Maco for making our visit so interesting. He took us up the mountain road towards Cetinje (26 hairpin bends!) to see the view from the top. It was marvellous especially when the light changed at different times casting shadows across the bay. We then drove to various hilltop villages where we had photo stops etc. It was magic! Budva is a nice place to stop. The people are so friendly. Why the cruise liner did not stop longer here I cannot understand. Anyway we saw all the best of places and scenery at a much better price than the ship excursions! Do visit Kotor. You will not be disappointed.

The Bay of Kotor is an incredible sight to see with fjord-like mountains all around.

If you have the energy, hike up to the church located up on the side of the mountain for even more spectacular views. You can climb even further but I didn't find it necessary. Be sure to bring bottled water and wear good walking shoes.

Well worth a day or two - the palaces of Perast, the walled Kotor Old Town, the magnificent church at Prcanj. Kotor Bay is a delight whatever the weather.

We had high hopes for our 2 weeks in Kotor Bay for summer 2013, but unfortunately and to our great surprise there was rubbish everywhere including on all the bays and beaches. Even when we visited some caves near Risan, rubbish was strewn everywhere. Sea was cold apart from in the odd isolated patch.

Of all the settlements we found Perast the nicest. It has some pleasant swimming at either end of the town if you can avoid the super cold currents. Some nice restaurants but not comparable to those we've experienced in places like KAS, Turkey. For one thing, being miserable seems to be ubiquitous!
