“Fruška Gora wine route”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Since the time of Romans grapes from Mt. Fruška Gora have been transformed into the most beautiful wines. Around 1,700 years have passed since the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus planted the first grapevine on the slopes of this mountain, in the village of Neštin. According to some historic scripts he was overthrown by his soldiers since at the time of peace he made them clear the forests and plant vineyards.

Interesting Orthodox medieval monasteries in Fruska Gora hills. There are 18 monasteries which most of them is still functional.

“Saw a few of them”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Well hidden in the woods, you need some maps / navigation tools. Some of them are in ruins, others well restored, like Stari Hopovo. Lots of icons and people are willing to show you around.

“a day trip”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

Got a car? Than get in and start driving around! The monasteries are not to be misses! If you also manage to speak a word or two of Serbian you will be pleased to hear some stories from the monks and nuns. Take care how you dress, though, because orthodox monasteries are kind of strict in this matter. No shorts & top tanks allowed. Go for a regular t-shirt and not so short & tight trousers and/or skirt (knee length will be ok) and everything will be ok. Show respect upon enetering, don't talk too loud. Don't use the flash inside the churches, please - it simply damages the paintings!
