Found this hotel by chance as we did not like the one recommended by Lonely Planet. So we walked to the waterfront and found Bristol. The rooms were simple but functional. The breakfast was good and the hotel seemed to be very popular with mature British tourists, very mature!

Anyway, it is an ideal place to stay if you don't plan to spend too much time in the hotel (still felt a bit Soviet there with windows facing a construction site but hey it was in 2004) but need a safe base in central Yalta and do not want to pay too much for it. Food was pretty good back then.

Room Tip: Ask the rooms that do not face the noisy side.

Yes the hotel is really good: in the heart of the city, close to the port area, the more attractive place of the city. Also the decoration, in old way with amazing pictures. Room spacious, but mine with just a shower, and no window to the street. Wi-fi perhaps feeble in the room. Breakfast excellent, with a cook ready for eggs, crepes,...BUT when I arrived they don't accept my Visa card, because they have a quantity for each day (?). I must go to a cashier to have money (of course the rate in the reception was another hotel business). They offer a beach...in a 100m distance. Really is worth to try, but no beach, only a minus swimming pool and a concrete with an iron ladder to the sea! I enjoyed it.

The difference between a good hotel and a great one is that while both are run really efficiently, the later is also a friendly establishment ... a real home away from home. From the outstanding efficiency and language skills of the reception staff, it was clear from the start that this was not just any old hotel.

This hotel offers undoubtedly the very best value I have encountered in close to 50 years of travel around the world. I was delighted to find a spiral staircase leading from the spacious lounge/kitchen up to an enchanting bedroom which shared the spectacular downstairs room's view of Yalta's seafront and backdrop of mountains.

The lounge also featured a small balcony. Breakfast featuring all the usuals plus custom-prepared pancakes, was included in the room tariff. But amazingly, free fruit juice complemented the free water in stark contrast to some Ukranian hotels which advise against drinking the tap water, and then charge outrageous prices for the bottled stuff.

All rooms and corridors were free of the usual hotel mustiness and well chosen paintings made the corridor walk to rooms a pleasurable experience.

There are hundreds of thousands of hotels in the world. And there is the Bristol Hotel. Even without its excellent gym and indoor pool, it would have scored the perfect 10. The Nadia Comanechi of hotels.

This hotel was very pleasant and staff very good. It is a very large hotel spanning a couple of blocks with shops under it. The restaurant is excellent. We chose it for dinner even though there were other ones around that looked just as good. Two person band playing light music which was nice. The restaurant is also used for breakfast, which was plentiful.

An excellent location downtown Yalta gives easy access to all amenties. My room at the back of the hotel on the 5th floor with views to the hills behind had superior quality furniture and fittings. The bathroom was fine. There was a certain noise level at various times but not too disturbing. The dining area for breakfast was very busy, so better to arrive early or late. It was a race to get back to one's seat before the staff cleared away one's things! All the staff were polite, helpful and competent. Overall I was well satisfied my my 3 nights at this hotel.

Room Tip: A room at the back would certainly be quieter.

This hotel is located close to the lively promenade. Furthermore it has a private beach. The location is perfect.

The leisure centre appears to close in the Summer. But who wants to be indoors when it's so sunny outside?

The food is good, there is wifi and the staff are very professional and also speak good English.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The definite advantage of this hotel is it's location - just behind the main sea promenade. Whilst not impressive, the room was fine and comfortable enough - although the extra bed they added to make it a triple for us was a bit bizarre! We did not have any problems with noise from other rooms or outside. The layout of the hotel is very quirky - the reception is hidden from view when you enter the hotel (it is in a room to the right) & you have to walk out of the hotel to go to the restaurant. The layout & decor does not generate a warm, welcoming feel - but the receptionists were friendly enough and helped out with all our queries. Receptionists spoke good English. Buffet breakfast was fine. A previous review mentioned that there was no free wi-fi: well we had free wi-fi when we were there. The one "wow factor" I got was the swimming pool and the gym. A good sized pool - a lot bigger than I was expecting.

If tripadvisor offered it - I would give this hotel a "good" rating rather than a "very good". Summary: if you are looking for a good location in Yalta and are OK with average rooms then this hotel is a good choice for you. If you are looking for a bit of luxury/ a romantic hotel then you are probably best looking for somewhere-else.

One tip - you may find it quicker to flag down your own taxi rather than get the hotel to book one for you. Ours took 20 minutes to arrive - even though there appeared to be a number of empty taxis further down the street.
