I needed an Inexpensive, modern hotel for a two-day business trip to L'viv, and selected Nota Bene. It was a very good choice. Being a new property, everything is fresh, clean and modern. The staff mostly seems to speak English, though I suspect that they are catering to Ukrainians and Poles, based on signage, the in--room directory, and the absence of BBC or CNN on the big flat-screen television. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from the railway station (2 km) and airport. It has free wi-fi throughout and a large conference room. This winter, they will have a sauna available as well - a nice amenity to take the chill off.

The complimentary breakfast (7 to 10 am) is standard Eastern European fare - lots of selection but it will strike westerners as odd due to lunch-type dishes like rice with vegetables, hot dogs, fish, cold cuts and cheese. Yet there is a sort of scrambled egg/ometlet concoction along with crepes, boiled potatoes, yogurt and cold cereals, as well as some pastries. Coffee is from automated espresso machines. All-in-all, there should be something here to get you going.

The single room offers a twin-sized bed, which is very narrow if you're used to a bigger bed. Yet the bedding is very comfortable, and as the hotel is on a residential street, it won't be difficult to sleep well.

In the bath, the shower and sink use liquid soap dispensers. Not a huge deal, and actually preferable to the microscopic plastic-wrapped bars most hotels provide. Towels are good quality, but not luxe.

This is a well designed hotel. The only modification I would suggest is the electrical sockets. The bathroom includes a hair dryer, but there is nowhere to plug an electric razor. Hotels are notoriously stingy with electrical outlets, but Note Bene provides three - a nice change! The problem is that you must crawl under the desk to access them. Considering that guests travel with computers and chargers for mobile phones, iPads and other essentials, having to snake around on the carpet (as I did) is uncomfortable and inconvenient. Much better had they placed the outlets at desk-level, where they can be reached easily.

The service is really very good. I went to the desk to ask to use an iron and board, and the housekeeper was practically at my room before I was. Everyone was attentive and friendly.

Overall, this is a great small hotel. I will be back!

Room Tip: Even if you're alone, book a double - unless you enjoy a rather narrow twin bed.
