Stunning collection and for me the best in Lviv. Artists from all over Europe. There is a small entrance fee and yes you are allowed to take pictures but without flash. Staff was friendly. This mansion must have been a amazing place once but the building looks sad now.

The rating of the place is challenging: the art is stunning, but the place is dilapidated (when I visited in Oct. it was very cold inside. Visitors and the staff wore hats, scarfs, and mittens!) But the portraits are really worth to see: artists from the 19 and early 20th centuries from Russia, Poland, and Austria. Nobody will prevent you from taking pictures; it is bad that there is no catalogue to highlight these artistic gems. My favored were: Sissi, Piano Lesson, Tale of a Mounaineer, and Winter Sun. So if you want to see rarely mentioned collection, go there; location close to central part of Lviv.

I've been to museums all over the capitals of Europe and the USA, and o did not expect to come across such a treasure trove in Lviv!! Absolutely activating cross section of masterworks from romanticism, Impressionism, modernism, expressionism, etc. Also provides context for the great wealth of local and regional history from world renowned artists most of us have yet to learn about. I'm really shocked they were able to protect the collection and expand it in the midst of Soviet kleptocracy and ignorance. It's a typical paradox that it is housed in a deteriorating aristocratic mansion built by Austrian duchess- complete with squeaky wooden floors and radiator heating and drafty windows. Strong emotional connection.

Those who likes Polish and Russian art - the best place to visit in Lviv. This was my first meeting with Ivan Shishkin, Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin. The have a very rich collection of the polish symbolist Jacek Malczewski. It is not very big so comfortable to visit and it's extremely chip - only 20 hryven!!!!!! Do you imagine this?

This is the part of the Lviv Art Gallery that contains the 19th-20th century part of their collection which is mostly Polish and Russian. Some good items by such painters as Matejko but little else of real interest
