Description: Although it positions itself as a steak house, the restaurant concept in fact is “East and West”, a mixture of Western and Oriental cuisine. Every section of the menu is divided into “East” and “West”. Open “Soups” and you will see Minestrone neighboring Tom Yam; go to “Fish” and choose Salmon with either Thai sweet-spicy sauce, or Blue Cheese sauce; see “Pasta” and you’ll find Risotto along with Nasi Goreng. Food quality is uneven. Excellent soups and tuna steak were followed by terrible veal medallions and (although vigorously promoted by the waitress), dreadful desserts: plain “hot ice-cream” and stale hard cheesecake. Full bar. The place has two levels: the upper one near the bar is a noisy vibrant smoking area with a large TV and loud music; the lower one, in the basement, is a tranquil romantic hall, non-smoking. High range (and too expensive for this quality). Web-site in Ukrainian only.

Satisfied with everything absolutely. Position of the restaurant, atmosphere, and of course food. Meat is awesome. Ordered ribs, and was really satisfied.

“Good steaks, but short beer list”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

Place with live music and friendly atmosphere.
Surprised with good food quality, fillet minion (medium rare cooked) was perfect!
The pricing policy is reasonable.
An overall impression was smashed by waitresse, denying credit card payment.
So, bring some cash, be ready.

“Overpriced semi-American food”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

Not a place to go if you're really looking for Ukrainian cuisine, more for those looking for other cuisine. Small portions and comparatively high prices.

“Mixed concept, mixed experience”
Reviewed December 29, 2010

I've read so many glorious reviews of The Grill on local web-sites that was longing to visit this restaurant. Regular management feedback promised we were in for a special evening.

And so it was.. for the first half an hour. But as the evening unfolded, it became worse and worse. We arrived inspired, but were happy to leave.

Although it positions itself as a steak house, the owners obviously struggle to “embrace non-embraceable” and satisfy every taste. The restaurant concept is "East and West", a mixture of Western and Oriental styles, supported by pungent contrasts in interior design and menu entries.

The restaurant occupies two levels. The first floor by the bar is a noisy vibrant smoking area with a large TV and loud music; excellent for bashes and large groups’ parties. The hall in the basement is a tranquil non-smoking area, perfect for romantic evenings or solo getaway dining. There’s also a small private lounge (so-called VIP hall).

We’ve chosen the basement hall and were charmed by its elegant décor and relaxing ambience. Japanese miniatures’ replicas on the walls even made me stand up and study them for a while. So far so good.

The menu is extensive and very ambitious, from the starters to the desserts. Divided into “East” and “West” parts, it is represented by the well-known and most popular dishes of European/American and Asian cuisine. Open SOUPS, and you will see Minestrone neighbouring Tom Yam; browse FISH for Salmon and decide between Thai sweet-spicy sauce, or Blue Cheese sauce; go through PASTA and choose Italian Risotto or Indonesian Nasi Goreng. Steaks are considered the restaurant’s specialty. Sushi make an essential part of the menu, too.

The bar menu is also diverse – anything from beer to liquors is available. Small, but nice choice of the dessert Japanese wines.

We’ve just arrived to Lviv after a long road trip and were starving, so ordered very generously. And the beginning was delightful! Excellent Tom Yam soup, decently spicy, and fascinating, rich, but melting Pot-au-feu – surprisingly served in Ciabatta bread. Soups were followed by equally delicious spicy tuna steak over absolutely tasteless spinach, and by terribly rubber veal medallions. The latter was totally unexpected in a steak-house. Desserts, although vigorously promoted by the waitress, provided grand finale to this fiasco: “hot ice-cream” was plain and tasteless, nothing special at all. And the cheesecake must have been cooked a week ago, so stale hard it was!

Considering that food quality was so uneven, I could not rate it higher than “average”. Although remembering the price of the worst cooked meals, it was very tempting to reduce it to “poor” – you just don’t expect to pay that much for such dreadful meal.

In terms of pricing, this is a high-end restaurant; definitely not a place to eat out on a moderate let alone tight budget. Being a foodie, I’m ready to pay for exceptional quality. But for the mixed experience that we had it was definitely way overpriced; no fair value at all.

Don’t think I’m ever coming back. The restaurant is too unpredictable.
