This is a wonderful church to marvel at the design genius. Somewhat challenging to get into during the off-season. Go right after the Mass has concluded for a view of the interior. There are faces along the exterior walls of the church and there is a dog, but iI never did find it

So after having spent a FAB cupla days in Venice, decided to do a little research on my current base her in Sibenik Croatia and Guess what?

Sibenik, like the rest of Dalmatia, resisted the Venetians in a three-year war that was resolved in their favor in 1412.[2] The Ottoman Empire started to threaten Šibenik, as part of their struggle against Venice, at the end of the 15th century,[3] but they never succeeded in conquering it. In the 16th century, St. Nicholas Fortress was built and, by the 17th century, its fortifications were improved again by the fortresses of St. John (Tanaja) and Šubićevac. If you are looking to visit somewhere a little less hectic [Hardly any traffic on the roads most of the time] then give this region of Croatia a visit. You will not be disappointed.

Cathedral structure is built entirely from stone and using unique construction techniques for the vaulting and the dome of the Cathedral. The form and the decorative elements of the Cathedral, such as a remarkable frieze decorated with 71 sculptured faces of men, women, and children, also illustrate the successful fusion of Gothic and Renaissance art.Criterion i The structural characteristics of the Cathedral of St James in Šibenik make it a unique and outstanding building in which Gothic and Renaissance forms have been successfully blended.Georgius Mathei Dalmaticus built the cathedral, with the exception of the nave and the aisle walls. The solution adopted for the cathedral at Šibenik was made possible by the outstanding quality of the stone used, which came from the stone quarries of Veselje, on the island of Brac, which are still in operation to this day.
