Medieval Mediteranean Garden of St Lawrence Monastery (MMG) in Šibenik was restored and opened on 6th November 2007 after being forgotten about for a hundred years. MMG is an integral part of the St Lawrence Monastery. This particular type of garden is notably rare, as it is the only one of its kind in Croatia, and there a vey few in this part of Europe. MMG follows an established medieval design: a cross design for a pathway, small centrally located water feature, with low growing varieties framed by boxtree and beautiful spectacular old varieties aromatic rose standards. There are four sections filled with medicinal plants and herbs. A special place has been assigned for our assortment of thyme in a wonderful array of red, purple, silver, light and dark green foliage. The sensational combination of colours is a true work of art. Another notable attraction in the garden are the capers.
This was the perfect place to sit on a hot day. The garden is well laid out with a fountain in the centre. The cafe serves drinks and ice-cream. It was a great place to relax and write postcards.
A beautiful garden in the midst of 15 century buildings. You feel in a middle of a movie set. Worth to sit at the cafe to enjoy a cold drink or a gelato
Disappointed...didn't recognize many plants, not well labelled, private party taking up most of space
Garden is nice, very small, well maintained. The problem is that seem just like part of the cafe that is there. If you get tired of visiting the city or you simply want to take some refreshment for sure it's nice place for that. Going there to see some special treasure of gardens.....well, you would be disappointed. For sure you can make few nice photos with or without bell tower.
A beautiful medieval garden is situated in the middle of Sibenik old town ( on Your way to fortress of st. Michael), just above the belfry of St. Lawrence. Surrounded by stone walls, with numerous herbs and shrubs, this garden is i marvellously soothing spot. There is also a cafe bar with terace, just oposite the garden.
