Very good value for money.
A 10 minute drive from Zadar (I had a car) right on the seafront. Good size rooms, plenty of parking, nice pool and bar.

The food was okay but not hot (at dinner and breakfast). Not a culinary experience but @ £43 inc all meals and drink (beer wine and soft drinks) its what you would expect. Some of the staff a bit gruff but plenty of them were very good.

Wifi in public areas but not in the rooms. Paid £10 extra for 3 days worth. Should really be included but the room rate was so low I didn't mind paying.

Stopped at the Donat for this our first trip to Zadar (third to Croatia). The hotel is basic but good value for money. If you are looking for luxury, you need to look elsewhere.

The hotel is situated in pleasant, partially wooded grounds 50 meters from the shore, within the Borek holiday peninsula. It is a 15 minute bus ride (10 kuna) from Zadar old town. We found the local buses clean and efficient but care is needed if returning when dark as it is really difficult to see where you are as street lighting is poor. One night, we ended up in the wrong place (wrong bus!).
If you are spending several days in Zadar my top sightseeing tips are:
1) if you have the energy, climb the cathdral tower for excellent views;
2) Take a ferry across to one of the neighbouring islands: much better value than the excursion boats and a much better vantage point;
3) Do take in a visit to Plitvice National Park: it's stunning

We found the staff helpful and courteous. As seems to be the Croatian way, if you want something you need to ask and your request will be responded to promptly and efficiently. One sour note: the evening before we left, we ordered a taxi for the airport for the following morning at reception. Having booked the taxi, we went off to bed. At the appointed time next day, no taxi: an anxious 35 minute wait to get another cab. Fortunately, we allowed ourselves plenty of time but things could have been very different. Double check the taxi firm you are booked with!

Rooms are comfortable enough, if on the small side but the balconies (smallish) help compensate. Furnishings are basic but adequate and there were clothes hangers in the ward robe. Sadly, no sink plug for the hand basin (but a wad of loo paper does the trick).

Food was nothing to write home about: again adequate, although we did have some superb squid and the fish generally was good. If you are a coffee fan, take your own! The stuff served in the restaurant is not nice. The Franck Black India Tea is, however, very good even when made with well off-the-boil water (surprisingly, the tea bag instructions say use 90 degree C water - shocking discovery for a Brit).

While we were at the Donat, they had a wedding reception in the restaurant and we were all sent off to the Faulkensteiner Funimation down the road. The food there was really good but then you generally get what you pay for and I suspect that the Funimation was somewhat more expensive than the deal we got on the Donat.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Donat and would be happy enough to return there. A good value place to stay.

Room Tip: As for a sea-view room

My husband and I spent one night there. This hotel is all inclusive including all beer and wine you want. We were a little early for check-in so they took our luggage and sent us for lunch which wasn't bad. The room was nice and adequate for one night. While we were there we visited the sea organ and Sun salutation which I recommend especially at night.

I stayed at Donat hotel because I attended the conference that was held here. Previously have stayed at neighbouring Falkensteiner Funimation Borik hotel and, unfortunatelly for this hotel, during my whole stay in Donat made comparisons of the two hotels. There is a difference in rating of the two hotels 3*:4* what is well seen in all the aspects - from rooms, restaurants, food quality, pools... and price... Hotel Donat is ok for 3* hotel. It is well located on the beach, has outdoor pool, nice animation club for children. The rooms are with older furniture, located in two buildings. The single rooms are quite small. It is reccomanded to avoid the rooms in the second building overlooking the car park, because a number of them are above the kitchen and the stay may be quite unpleasant (strong smells, noise,...). Very similar (sometimes the same) meals are served both for lunch and dinner and there is rather low diversity of meals during the week (you cant miss spaghetti bolognese - almost always served). The hotel is not so far from the centre of the Zadar, but you will probably need a public transportation (mini train, bus), or taxi. Taxi is a good option and not too expensive (cca 50 kunas - 6.6 EUR to reach the centre).

Was 3 days in hotel Donat and i like it. Very pleasant staff, especially at the front desk, they help me a lot with my car problem. Food was awesome, alot of choice and, to be honest, i didin't expect it in 3 star hotel. Usually i stay in 3 star hotels (value for money) and this was best food and staff so far! Rooms and hotel very outdated but it's clean. I will recommend this hotel as very good.

We booked this for our last night in Croatia. We were travelling from Korcula so thought half board would be simple. Arrived at 2030 to find the restaurant had just closed. Wouldn't have minded so much but I had phoned a week before and been told the restaurant was open till 2100. The receptionist produced two paper bags containing a picnic consisting of a tin of pate, a couple of rolls and a bottle of water. I got grumpy, which he handled very professionally but couldn't do anything. We tried a glass of white wine from the free bar. It was served at room temperature and tasted foul. We went out for a meal. We got back to find the house duo playing Elvis covers full blast under our window. Double glazing useless. Eventually stopped at 2310 but the noise from the bar went on till midnight. Breakfast served in enormous flourescent lit dining room off bright green table clothes. Food pretty grim - which at least made us feel better about missing dinner. Room large but didn't seem to have been redecorated since before the Berlin wall fell. To be fair the bathroom was OK. When we checked out they tried to charge us 6 euros more than the price we had from booking.com. They gave us 10% off after some argument but still cost £115 for one night. Terrible value.

According to their advertisement, the rooms look like a 4-5 star rooms. When got to room it was a spare cot mattress, not really clean room and in the shower you have the choice to clean either your front part or your behind because it was REAL small. Manager is not at night and attendant at shift cannot make decisions to change rooms. And forget about call the manager at night, have to wait until the morning!!
