We went to a wedding in this beautiful cathedral. It is a reminder that Croatia is historically a part of Europe, and interesting to compare it with cathedrals in nearby countries of main-stream Europe like Italy and Austria.

Climbing up the bell tower of St. Anastasia Cathedral seemed like a good idea. I must say it was not an easy climb for me, but the kids loved it. The payoff was the beautifull view of the city and the islands to the south and the mountain Velebit on the north side. Getting down was another story, I am afraid of heights and looking down while descending had my heart pacing. Would I recommend it, definetely YES, even if Iwould not do it again :)

Originally built in 13th century but rebuilt since WWII. It is typical of a more modern Croatian church.

Check out the main sanctuary, which faces away from the forum, with its remarkable rose window. The church also contains St Anastasia's sarcophagus, to the left of the main altar (there is a copyin the archeology museum across the forum. The tower is a real highlight, with a grand view of old town from its top ... along with an intimate look at the church's bells!
