Roman ruins are beautifully displayed across the plaza in the middle of the town...mothers watch as kids climb on them, friends chat as they lean against a piece of a column, a tour passes through headed to the sea organ and the promenade. I've seen a lot of roman ruins in my travels, but this display was so simple it struck a cord with me. Somehow putting my hands on the broken pieces of history, told me more about this place than any previous venue. Wander through the main street of Zadar and you won't be able to miss the Forum...but take a moment to pause as you move through.

By the cathedral and overlooking the sea the forum is a great place to view all these ancient artefacts. Good location to walk around and marvel at history.

We enjoyed seeing the old Roman Forum during our brief cruise visit - and also the archeological museum next door!

You will end up on Forum no matter where in Old Town you are. In night is more beautiful then during the day. Lots of Roman history but lack of details. However, there are some exhibitions that can help or a city map you can get in a Hostel.
Nice place to wonder around and relax.

The whole Zadar peninsula was inhabited since the stone age. first written proofs of the settlements go back to the 4th century BC. Throughout the whole old town you see traces of different era settlements. the biggest is the roman forum. this is just one small part of history you can see and explore in the city of Zadar. a really beautiful place where you can soak yourself in culture and history going back thousands of years.
