“Great Value”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

This place was perfect for us. We decided to go with it based on the fabulous reviews from TripAdvisor and are glad we did. The view is great with decent size balconies to enjoy it from. The beach is just a short 5-10 min walk from the hotel. There is a nice supermarket right there as well. This place is about a 10 minute drive outside of downtown but after driving downtown we are glad we stayed here, a short drive away from it all. As beautiful as old town is, the area Villa Gravic is located in is quiet and relaxing. The hotel itself is clean and very cozy. The pool is small but nice for a dip. The pavilion in the front is great. As the sun would come in on our balcony until early evening and be a bit too hot, we would go sit under the pavilion and enjoy a meal. We had pretty much looked up everything we wanted to do before we went and how to do it, but she was more than welcome to help with anything. We would definitely recommend this place and would stay here again!

Room Tip: We had the superior room and were glad we paid a bit more to have a large center balcony as we enjoy...

Just as mentioned by the other reviews, the owner Ivana is a great resource and gave us great recommendations, particularly for dinner (which we had at Hotel Niko nearby). We only stayed 1 night, arriving late and leaving in the morning. The apartment was clean and spacious, if a little dated, and we got a great last minute deal by calling the day before. We didn't have time to swim but sat next to the pool in the morning enjoying the sun and the sea view. Location a bit isolated but we had a car so driving to town was not a problem. Make sure you visit the lovely town of Nin if you are here.

The pros:
The biggest pro is the owner who gives lots of great advice for all of Croatia
Decent apartments with large balcony
Outdoor pool
Con
The location is a bit out of the way but we got taxis for 20 to 27 kruna. Ivana will order for you on the way in and just ask the price in advance on the way back to avoid getting ripped off

This small, family-run block of self-catered apartments is situated about 5 minutes' walk from the seafront and about 10 minutes' drive outside of Zadar's Old Town.

Our apartment was immaculately clean, well equipped, comfortable and spacious. We'd booked a one bed, but as there was a two-bed apartment free, we were given an 'upgrade' for no extra cost. Our apartment was situated on the south-east side of the building, so our balcony, which offered views down to the sea, enjoyed sunshine throughout the day; it was so nice in fact that most nights we chose to stay in and cook, so we could eat outside and watch the sun go down with a nice, cold pivo.

The apartments' facilities are excellent - a cool pool for a refreshing dip and pleasant gardens in which to sunbathe. What more could you ask for? There's even a gym if you're feeling extra keen, and as we'd travelled with just hand-luggage for a 13-night stay (thanks, Ryanair) the laundrette was a life-saver! The hob-only cooker did mean we had to be a bit creative with our culinary skills, but the well-stocked local stores offered plenty of choice. There's also a BBQ in the gardens for guests to make use of and an open-air patio dining area.

We hired a car for the duration of our trip and I would definitely recommend it. Although the apartments are well-positioned for exploring this beautiful part of Croatia - go to Krka Waterfalls and Plitvice Lakes, about two hours' drive, but a must-see! - there isn't a town centre nearby as such and the beach, although spotless, is rocky, like much of Croatia's coastline. This is a great location, though, and if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, this is a lovely retreat. The Old Town is a fantastic place to explore, chill out and soak up a bit of culture and atmosphere, and taxis to here are very reasonable at around £5. Make sure you check out The Garden, a late-night open-air music bar, and Kastel restaurant, which is just opposite.

The only thing that topped the apartment for us was being looked after by the wonderful Ivana. You know the well-worn phrase, 'you're more than welcome'? I'm not sure I fully got its meaning before staying at Villa Gravic. We were genuinely made to feel more than welcome. From helping us plan and organise day trips and routes to the various places we wanted to visit, to helping us order pizza, recommending bars, restaurants and attractions, (and even washing our pants!), Ivana was the perfect host. We definitely wouldn't have got as much out of our holiday if she hadn't taken the time to impart her expert local knowledge. She deserves an award for her services to Zadar tourism!

Room Tip: If you can make the stairs (there's no lift), choose a room on the second or third floor on the...

Ivana was very helpful, gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities. $40 kuna cab to the old town (10 minutes), 5 minute walk to beach. Good size apartments, balcony's and very clean and good value. Pool is small but refreshing.

Nice host Ivana helped us a lot for recommendations. They have a small swimming pool, and they have free parking in their own car park just behind the hotel. The old town is five minutes drive away, great size rooms with living area and kitchen and balcony. There is no telephone in the room and no lift like in a hotel but they only have 3 levels anyway.

Room Tip: Better if you are hiring a car.

The manager, is possibly the most friendly person in the world, she could not do enough for us. Helped us find our way into town and to other places. The apartment is spacious and clean, as well as having a nice pool. Comes with a good fridge freezer and cooking appliances and a good balcony for drinks in the evening etc!

5min walk down the hill to the supermarket/beach/bus stop.

15 mins bus drive out of Zadar town, but with 5 mins of 2/3 bars/cafes. Go to Mango which is quite young and serves cheap quality alcohol.
